        This study investigated optimal extraction conditions for applying Capsicum annuum L. leaf as a functional food resource. Capsicum annuum L. leaf was extracted at different extraction solvents (water and 95% ethanol), extraction temperatures (80oC and 100oC), and e xtraction times ( 30, 60, and 9 0 min), a nd t he extracts were e valuated for extraction yield, luteolin content as a major flavonoid component, antioxidant activity, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The extraction yield, luteolin content, DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the hot water extract were higher than those of the ethanol extract. In evaluating the extraction temperature of Capsicum annuum L. leaf, the antioxidant activities were similar, but the extraction yields, luteolin contents, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities were higher at 100oC extraction. In evaluating the extraction time of Capsicum annuum L. leaf, extraction yield increased as the extraction time increased, but antioxidant activity and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity were the highest at 60 min of extraction. These results suggest that the optimum extraction conditions of Capsicum annuum L. leaf are hot water for 60 min at 100oC, and the extracts can be used as a functional food resource.

        As the number of aging nuclear power plants increases, the market for dismantling nuclear power plants is growing rapidly. About 40% of the cost of dismantling nuclear power plants is the waste treatment cost incurred during the dismantling process, of which concrete waste accounts for a significant portion of the total waste. Securing technology for reducing and recycling concrete waste is very important not only in terms of economy but also in terms of environment. The objective is to synthesize geopolymer using inorganic materials from cement fine powder in concrete waste. Cement fine powder in concrete waste has a large amount of inorganic elements necessary for filing materials for radioactive waste treatment such as CaO and SiO2. In particular, Ca(OH)2 is synthesized by extracting Ca2+ from concrete waste. It can be used as an alkali activator to synthesize geopolymer. The mortar from crushed concrete was used as a source of calcium. The first step is to react with concrete waste and hydrochloric acid to extract ions. The second step is to react with NaOH and synthesize Ca(OH)2. The product was divided into two stages according to the reaction method and order. The first and second products were washed and dried, and then XRD and XRF were performed. The second product was matched only Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3 at the XRD peak. In the case of XRF, it was analyzed to have a purity of 67.80–78.73%. Synthesis of geopolymer by recycling materials extracted from concrete waste can reduce disposal costs and improve the utilization rate of disposal sites.

        본 연구는 바질 오일을 첨가한 모질 개선 제형제를 제조 후 손상된 모발에 도포하여 손상 모발 의 개선 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 실험원료로 바질 오일 함량을 0 g, 3 g 6 g, 9 g 으로 다르게 하여 펌 베이스제에 첨가하여 제형제를 제조하였다. 제조한 제형제로 8레벨의 탈색한 시료 모발에 도포하였다. 각 시료와 손상모를 측정하여 비교 분석하였다. 측정방법은 모질 개선 효과를 알기 위해 인장강도, 메틸렌블 루를 이용한 흡광도, 광택을 측정하였다. 연구결과의 신뢰성을 위해 통계분석을 하였다. 연구결과로 인장강 도 측정결과는 바질 오일을 첨가하여 도포 한 모든 시료에서 손상모보다 인장강도가 증가함을 알 수 있었 다. 메틸렌블루를 이용한 흡광도 분석결과 모든 시료에서 손상모보다 흡광도가 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 광 택 측정결과는 모든 시료에서 손상모보다 광택이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 결론은 바질 오일이 손상된 모발 에 개선 효과가 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 차후 다양한 오일의 종류와 연구방법으로의 연구가 필요하다.

        Coccidiosis is caused by infection of Eimeria species and an significant parasitic disease in poultry. Various kinds of natural products have been studied to find alternative treatments for coccidiosis in chickens, but the effect of Houttuynia cordata on Eimeria infection has not been investigated. The aim of this study is to study the anticoccidial effect of H. cordata extract (HCE) in chickens after oral infection by Eimeria tenella. Anticoccidial effects of the HCE was evaluated in chickens after oral infection with E. tenella. This study was performed on threeday- old chicks (n = 30). These animals were divided into 3 groups; HCE 0.2% treated/infected (n = 10), HCE untreated/infected (n = 10) and non-infected control (n = 10). The effect of HCE on E. tenella infection was assessed by two parameters; fecal oocysts shedding and body weights gain. the chicks fed HCE significantly reduced fecal oocysts when compared to the E. tenella-infected group fed standard diets (p<0.05). Furthermore, the HCE-based diet improved weight loss due to E. tenella infection. Our data shows that HCE had significant antiprotozoal activity against E. tenella. These findings may have implications for the development of anticoccidial drugs.

        Toxoplasmosis, caused by Toxoplasma gondii (Tg), is one of the most prevalent zoonotic diseases worldwide. Currently, safe and efficient therapeutic options for this disease are still being developed, and are urgently needed. Agrimonia pilosa (A. pilosa) is a rosaceous plant, and widely distributed in Asia. The bioactive compounds in A. pilosa Ledeb include flavonoid, triterpenoids, and isocoumarin, and have been reported to show many pharmacological effects including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities.The aim of this study was to determine Anti-protozoal efficacy of Agrimonia pilosa ethanol extract (APE) against Toxoplasma gondii (Tg). In this study, APE was examined and screened for anti-Tg activity. Seventy percent ethanol was used for herbal extraction. For anti-Tg activity screening, in vitro study with APE using tachyzoit of Tg RH strain infected HeLa cells were performed. Also, in vivo anti- Tg study using the mouse infection model was conducted. As the results, the selectivity of APE was 3.35, which was higher than Sulfadiazine selectivity (2.08). Also, we performed in vivo animal study to evaluate the anti-Tg activity of APE with mouse model. As the results, Anti-toxoplasma activity of the APE was as high as sulfadiazine. These results demonstrate that it can be successfully cured against Tg infection with APE. It could be a promising native herb treatment for the prevention of Tg infection.

        Inflammation is a protective mechanism against pathogens, but if maintained continuously, it destroys tissue structures. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans is a gram-negative, facultative anaerobic bacterium often found in severe periodontitis. A. actinomycetemcomitans invades epithelial cells and triggers inflammatory response in the immune cells. In this study, we investigated the effect of water-soluble rosehip extract on A. actinomycetemcomitansinduced inflammatory responses. A human monocytic cell line (THP-1) was differentiated to macrophages by phorbol 12-mystristate 13-acetate treatment. The cytotoxic effect of extract was determined using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2- yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. The effects of extract on bacterial growth were examined by measuring the optical densities using a spectrophotometer. THP-1-derived macrophages were infected A. actinomycetemcomitans after extract treatment, and culture supernatants were analyzed for cytokine production using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Protein expression was measured by western blotting. Extract was not toxic to THP-1- derived macrophages. A. actinomycetemcomitans growth was inhibited by 1% extract. The extract suppressed A. actinomycetemcomitans-induced tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-8 production. It also decreased mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAP kinase) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) phosphorylation. Moreover, the extract inhibited the expression of inflammasome components, including nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor pyrin domain-containing protein 3, Absent in Melanoma 2, and apoptosis associated speck-like protein containing a CARD. And cysteine-aspartic proteases-1 and IL-1β expression were decreased by the extract. In summary, extract suppressed A. actinomycetemcomitans growth and decreased inflammatory cytokine production by inhibiting activation of MAP kinase, NF-κB, and inflammasome signaling. Rosehip extract could be effective in the treatment of periodontal inflammation induced by A. actinomycetemcomitans infection.

        An extract of fresh guava leaves (Psidium guajava) was used as a green carbon precursor to fabricate blue fluorescent carbon quantum dots (GCQDs) by hydrothermal process. The GCQDs show bright blue fluorescence emission under UV light with an excitation wavelength of 350 nm and emission at 450 nm. The physical structure of GCQDs was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), High-resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). GCQDs 80 μg inhibited the growth of waterborne pathogens Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi. We also investigated the catalytic activity of the GCQDs on the removal of two azo dyes, namely Congo red and bromophenol blue, with and without NaBH4. The GCQDs showed an excellent reduction of color intensity of both dyes without NaBH4 within 30 min of treatment.

        본 연구에서는 비건 인증(Vegan) 화장품 원료 7종 혼합추출물의 항산화능 및 미백효과를 확인 하였다. 라디컬 소거능으로서 DPPH, ABTS, FRAP 실험, 항산화 물질 측정으로서 폴리페놀과 플라보노이 드 함량 측정을 실시하였다. DPPH 실험에서는 105.74 mg ascorbic acid / g의 항산화능을 나타내었으며, ABTS 실험에서는 85.31 mg ascorbic acid / g의 항산화능을 나타내었다. FRAP에서는 7종 혼합추출물의 1 mg이 ascorbic acid 198.01±5.50 μg의 환원력을 보였다. 폴리페놀 함량은 30.19±0.75 mg/g으로 나타 났으며, 플라보노이드 함량은 9.12±0.36 mg/g으로 나타났다. 한편 세포실험에서는 세포 독성과 미백활성 을 알아보았다. 세포독성의 경우 20% 이하의 세포 독성을 보였으며, 100 μg/mL 농도에서 34.70±2.97% 의 멜라닌 생성 억제능을 보여 7종 혼합추출물의 기능성 화장품 원료로서의 가능성을 확인하였다.

        The present study is designed to investigate the antibacterial effect of the hot-water and various ethanol extracts from the leaves of Dendropanax morbifera L. (DML) against Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalsis). Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 30, 50 and 70% ethanol extract of DML against P. gingivalis decreased in a concentration-dependent manner. However, MIC and MBC of hot-water and 30% ethanol extract against P. gingivalis were the same as 3.13 and 6.25 mg/mL, respectively. In the bacterial growth inhibition test, the growth of P. gingivalis in the group treated with MBC and 2×MBC of DML hot-water extract was statistically significantly decreased from 6 h after incubation compared to the control group (p<0.001). From the results portrayed above, aqueous extract from DML at the concentration of 6.25 mg/mL can be usefully used to suppress infection of P. gingivalis, a major causative agent of periodontal disease.

        백출(Atractylodes japonica)은 국화과(Compositae)에 속하는 다년생 식물로 한국에서 이뇨 작용, 수렴작용, 항알러지, 신경보호, 항암, 면역증강 및 위장관 보호효과 등으로 민간요법에서 널리 사 용되고 있다. 백출의 열수 및 70% 에탄올 추출물에 대한 DPPH 및 ABTS 자유라디칼 소거능으로 항산 화 활성을 측정하였다. 게다가 NO 생성, iNOS와 COX-2 단백질 발현을 웨스턴 블롯으로 측정하였으 며, 염증성 사이토카인의 발현을 RT-PCR 방법으로 측정함으로 항염증 효과를 측정하였다. 열수 및 70% 에탄올 추출물들의 항산화 활성은 농도-의존적인 효과를 보였지만, 추출용매에 따른 차이는 나타 나지 않았다. 70% 에탄올에 의한 백출 추출물에서 매우 강한 NO 활성 억제효과를 보였다. 백출 열수 및 에탄올 추출물은 NO 생성에 관여하는 iNOS 및 COX-2 단백질의 발현을 현저히 감소시켰다. 열수 및 70% 에탄올 추출물 모두 염증성 사이토카인인 IL-6 및 IL-1b는 현저히 억제시키지만, TNF-α의 발현은 약하게 억제시키는 결과를 얻었다. 본 연구를 통하여 백출 70% 에탄올 추출물이 NO 생성을 현 저히 억제하며, 염증성 사이토카인의 발현을 현저히 감소시키는 효과를 보이므로 염증성 질환 치료 및 개선에 널리 사용될 수 있으리라 생각한다.

        본 연구에서는 대추 열수추출물에 대한 유산균 발효를 통해 기능성 소재로서의 가능성을 알아보고자 하여 열수추출물에 L. plantarum 을 접종하여 유산균 발효물을 제조하였으며, 열수추출물과 유산균 발효물의 영양성분 및 항산화능을 비교 ․ 분석하였다. 대추 열수추 출물에 접종한 유산균은 초기 12시간 만에 증가하였으며, 이후 72 시간까지 큰 증감없이 그 수를 유지하여 대추 열수추출물은 유산균 의 생육에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았다. 열수추출물과 유산균 발효물 의 당도, pH 및 총산도를 측정한 결과, 당도는 유산균 발효 여부와 관계없이 열수추출횟수가 증가할수록 높아졌으며, pH는 유산균 발 효 이후 현저히 감소하였고, 총산도는 2차 열수추출물의 발효물에 서만 유의적으로 증가하였다. 2차 열수추출물의 유산균 발효 여부 에 따른 일반영양성분 분석 결과, 모든 성분에서 유의적 차이를 보 이지 않았으며, DPPH 및 ABTS free radical 소거활성능은 유산 균 발효 여부에 관계없이 열수 추출횟수에 비례하여 증가하여 2차 열수추출물과 그의 발효물에서 가장 높은 결과를 나타내었다. 총폴 리페놀 함량 또한 유산균 발효여부에 관계없이 1차 열수추출물에 서 가장 높은 값이 관찰되었다. 본 연구를 통해 대추 열수추출물은 유산균 생육에 전혀 영향을 미치지 않아 유산균 발효물 제조 가능 성을 확인했으며, 또한 항산화능과 총폴리페놀 함량은 열수추출횟 수에 의해 영향을 받는다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 하지만, 열수추출 물과 유산균 발효물 사이에 일반영양성분 및 항산화능에 큰 차이 는 없었으며, 이는 L. plantarum 단일 균주로만 연구를 진행했기 때문으로 여겨진다. 따라서 추후에 다양한 유산균주를 사용하여 대추 열수추출물의 발효를 시도해 항산화능을 비롯한 다양한 기능 성을 증가시킬 수 있는 유산균주를 탐색할 필요가 있을 것으로 사 료된다.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of extract mixture of C. wilfordii and P. umbrosa (IPLUS-CWPU) on bone growth in 4-week old young male SD rats. To confirm the effect of IPLUS-CWPU, we measured the length of bone growth plate, the ratio of proliferative zone to the length of growth plate and the expression level of insulin-like growth factor, IGF-1. The IPLUS-CWPU treatment shows a significant increase of tibial and femoral growth plate and the ratio of proliferative zone in growth plate. Especially, the length increased by 13.9% and 25.3% in the tibia and femur, respectively, in the high-dose group compared to the normal group. Moreover, the expression of IGF-1 gene in liver was upregulated in IPLUS-CWPU treated groups. These results indicated that IPLUS-CWPU administration could increase the proliferative zone of bone growth plate in early developmental stage by upregulation of IGF-1 gene.

        The fruit stalk of Hovenia dulcis (H.dulcis) is traditionally used to relieve hangovers in Korea. Theracurmin is a highly absorbable curcumin preparation which increases the bioavailability of curcumin. Curcumin is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. However, the role of this combination in lowering alcohol levels in the body, thereby alleviating the severity of alcohol-induced hangover has not been investigated. Therefore, we conducted a study to investigate the eliminatory effects of a health drink containing the extract of the H. dulcis fruit stalk and theracurmin (theracurmin drink) on ethanol-induced hangover in rats. The theracurmin drink delivered orally to rats 30 mins before the administration of 40% ethanol (5 g/kg body weight), lowered the concentration of ethanol and acetaldehyde in the blood samples collected 1, 3, and 5 h after ethanol administration. Furthermore, the theracurmin drink increased the activities of alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase enzymes. The effectiveness of the theracurmin drink was thus superior to that of other health drink products, suggesting that its consumption may alleviate or prevent an alcohol-induced hangover.

        Raphanus sativus var. hortensis f. raphanistroides Makino (Korean wild radish [WR]) are root vegetables belonging to the Brassicaceae family. These radish species mostly grow in sea areas in Asia, where they have been traditionally used as a medicinal food to treat various diseases. To investigate the effect of WR on neuronal cell death in SH-SY5Y cells, betaamyloid was used to develop the cell death model. WR attenuated neuronal cell death in SH-SY5Y and regulated the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling. WR extract also inhibited acetylcholinesterase inhibitor activity. Additionally, the WR treatment group ameliorated the behavior of the memory-impaired mice in a scopolamine-induced mouse model. In the behavior test, WR treated mice showed shorter escape latency and swimming distance and improved the platform-crossing number and the swimming time within the target quadrant. Furthermore, WR prevented histological loss of neurons in hippocampal CA1 regions induced by scopolamine. This study shows that WR can prevent memory impairment which may be a crucial way for the prevention and treatment of memory dysfunction and neuronal cell death.

        In this study, Korean Hallabong produced in Jeju Island and coffee were grafted to prepare coffee containing Hallabong extract and the nutritional components were analyzed. As the amount of Hallabong extract increased, the water content and total polyphenol content increased. However, the crude flour, crude protein, and total flavonoid content decreased significantly. The selenium content per 100 g was 91.28 mg in the 1% Hallabong group, and the iron content was 6.84 mg in the 3% Hallabong group. As the content of Hallabong extract in coffee increased, the L-value (brightness) and b-value (yellowness) increased, but the a-value (redness) showed a tendency to decrease. In the case of DPPH(2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity, the group containing 9% of Hallabong extract showed the highest value at 47.20 μmol/g of TEAC. In particular, the ABTS(2,2’-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline- 6-sulfonate)) and DPPH radical scavenging activity were significantly increased from coffee powder containing 6% or more of Hallabong extract(p<0.05). The caffeine content decreased as the amount of Hallabong extract added to coffee increased. Therefore, when making powder coffee with Hallabong extract added, it is recommended to set the content of Hallabong extract to 6%.

        본 연구는 십자화과 채소인 갓(Brassica juncea) 추출물 을 이용하여 지표성분인 sinigrin의 함량을 분석하고, 내분비계 교란물질 환경호르몬인 비스페놀 A (BPA)로 분화를 유도한 3T3-L1 전구지방세포에서 갓 추출물과 sinigrin 처 리에 대한 지방세포 분화 및 활성산소종(ROS) 생성 억제, 지방 생성 전사인자(PPARγ, C/EBPα, aP2)의 단백질 발현 감소 효능을 평가하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 HPLC를 이용하여 측정한 갓 추출물 중 sinigrin의 함량은 21.27±0.2 mg/g 인 것으로 나타났다. BPA로 유도된 3T3-L1 전구지방세포에 서 XTT assay 결과 sinigrin 180 μM 및 갓 추출물 300 μg/ mL 농도에서 세포 독성을 보이지 않았으며, 지방세포 분화과정 중 세포 내 지방 축적량과 ROS 생성량을 비교하였을 때 갓과 sinigrin을 처리한 지방세포의 경우 지방축 적량 및 ROS 생성량 모두 유의적으로 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 갓 추출물 및 sinigrin을 처리하였을 때 지 방세포 분화를 조절하는 전사인자 PPARγ, C/EBPα 및 aP2 의 발현이 억제됨을 확인하였다. 이 결과를 통해 갓은 환 경호르몬 비스페놀 A로 유도된 지방세포 내 지방 축적 억제와 더불어 ROS 저감에 효과적으로 작용함을 확인하였다. 향후 sinigrin을 함유한 갓은 BPA로 인한 지질 대사 장애를 예방하는 천연물 유래 기능성 식품 소재로 활용할 가능성이 높은 것으로 기대되며, 추가로 임상 연구 및 작용기전 입증을 위한 in vivo 모델에서의 후속 연구가 진 행되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

        Bacillus velezensis HKB-1가 표고버섯 수확후배지 퇴비로부터 분리되었으며 고추역병균(Phythopthora capsici), 인삼모 잘록병균(Rhizoctonia solani), 고추탄저병균(Collectotrichum coccodes) 및 시들음병(Fusarium oxysporium)의 균사체 성장을 70% 이상 억제하는 항 진균 활성을 보였다. B. velezensis HKB-1은 표고버섯 수확후배지 퇴비물 추출물과 당밀 1% 첨가배지에서 다른 상업용 세균배지보다 10~100배 더 높은 세균증식률을 보였으며 고추 역병균의 균사체 생장을 90% 억제하였으며 고추생육 촉진효과 및 고추역병에 대하여 70% 이상의 방제효과가 있었다.
