        3D printing is widely used in product development and prototype manufacturing, and is expected to become universal across various industries with the development of 3D printing-related technologies. However, parts made by Fused Deposition Modeling(FDM) 3D printing using the commonly used stacking manufacturing process, show low tensile strength and hardness. The decreased mechanical properties of these parts limit their use as structural elements. In this study, we aim to investigate the relationship between ultrasonic treatment of PLA parts produced by FDM 3D printing and their mechanical properties. Specifically, we analyze the effects of ultrasonic annealing on the mechanical properties of PLA parts using the tensile test specimen.

        Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is being considered as a technology to replace the conventional manufacturing process of titanium alloys. However, coarse β grains, which can extend through several deposited materials, result in strong textures and anisotropy. As a solution, we study the plastic deformation effects of ultrasonic needle peening (UNP) on the microstructure. UNP treated materials deform plastically and the dislocation density increases. Fine α+α' grains with low aspect ratio are observed in the UNP treated specimens. UNP treated WAAM Ti-6Al-4V alloys have higher strength and lower elongation than those characteristics of WAAM Ti-6Al-4V alloys. Due to UNP treatment, the z-axis directional specimens exhibit a greater effect of reducing elongation than do the x-axis directional specimens. The UNP treatment produces fine grains in proportion to the number of times UNP is performed, thereby increasing strength. UNP processes produce a large number of dislocations in the WAAM Ti-6Al-4V alloys, with the most dislocations being formed at the surface.

        In this study, the different effects of ultrasonic surface treatment on rice husk carbon (RHC) were studied. The RHC was treated by ultrasound in water, silane, and polyphosphoric acid. Particle size, chemical changes of the surface, dispersion, and surface area were all investigated. The ultrasonic treatment in acid increased the hydrophilicity of RHC. The ultrasonic treatment in silane produced silanol having amphiphilic property. The surface treatment of RHC in a water and acid medium with ultrasound increased the surface area and pore volume of RHC. Therefore, it is expected that the ultrasonically treated RHC as a biofiller is an effective substitute to commercial filler. This would have a positive effect both economically and environmentally.

        Despite numerous advances in the preparation and use of GaN, and many leading-edge applications in lighting technologies, the preparation of high-quality GaN powder remains a challenge. Ammonolytic preparations of polycrystalline GaN have been studied using various precursors, but all were time-consuming and required high temperatures. In this study, an efficient and low-temperature method to synthesize high-purity hexagonal GaN powder is developed using sub-micron Ga2O3 powder as a starting material. The sub-micron Ga2O3 powder was prepared by an ultrasonic spray pyrolysis process. The GaN powder is synthesized from the sub-micron Ga2O3 powder through a nitridation treatment in an NH3 flow at 800℃. The characteristics of the synthesized powder are systematically examined by X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and UV-vis spectrophotometer.

        The mosquito is a dangerous disease vector, which transfers various diseases like dengue virus, Zika virus and malaria.This study used an alternative way of mosquito repellent agents rather than chemical repellents such as DEET. We haveemployed a novel emitters of ultra-sonic sounds, which showed repellent effects to mosquito behaviors that avoid ultra-sonicsounds. Using NGS analysis after ultrasonic treatment, we found that some subsets of sensory and other related geneswere affected, indicating that ultrasonic sounds affects gene expression associated with host finding behaviors in Aedesaegypti. Additionally, we performed electrophysiological recording and behavior assay testing repellency in a chamberin Culex pipiens, which is the most common species in Korea.

        A nonthermal method of decontamination using electrolyzed water (EW) or/and ultrasonification (US) was used for microbial reduction of black pepper. Aerobic bacteria and yeasts and mold in commercial black pepper powder were found to be 8.29 and 7.72 log(CFU/g), respectively. The optimum EW was produced at flow rates of brine and water of 100 mL/min and 300 mL/min, respectively. Using EW, reducing by 1.36 log of aerobic bacteria and 1.15 log of yeasts and mold were observed. The combination of US with distilled water (DW) treatment reduced aerobic bacteria by 0.74 log and yeasts and mold by 1.03 log. The best decontamination results were obtained with US combined with EW, resulting 1.48 log reduction of aerobic bacteria and 1.70 log reduction of yeasts and mold. The inactivation pattern of microorganism by EW or/and US fitted well to first-order-kinetics model. The black pepper quality in terms of color, piperine contents and sensory properties was not changed by any of tried treatments compare to controls.

        본 연구는 강산성차아염소산수(SAHW)와 초음파(UW)를 병용한 조미오징어 반가공품의 미생물 오염도 저감 기술을 개발하고자 수행되었다. SAHW의 유효염소농도는 69.67 ± 0.58 ppm, ORP는 1071.33 ± 4.16 mV, pH는 2.79 ± 0.05이었다. 오징어 반가공품을 중량대비 20배의 SHS에 120분간 침지하였을 때 일반세균은 1.49 log CFU/g, 황색포도상구균은 1.32 log CFU/g 감소하였으며, 대장균은 검출한계 이하로 감소하였다. 오징어 반가공품 중량대비 10배의 SAHW에 120분간 침지한 경우, 일반세균은 2.69 log CFU/g, 황색포도상구균은 1.74 log CFU/g 감소하였으며, 20배의 SAHW에 120분간 침지한 경우, 일반세균은 3.62 log lCFU/g, 황색포도상구균은 3.22 log CFU/g 감소하였으며, 대장균은 검출되지 않아 SAHW가 같은 유효염소농도의 SHS보다 살균력이 높은 것을 알 수 있었다. SAHW 단독 처리만으로는 만족할 만한 미생물 저감효과를 얻을 수 없었기에 조미오징어 반가공품을 SAEW에 1차 침지 처리한 후, SAHW에 2차 침지 처리한 결과, 오징어 반가공품 중량 대비 20배의 SAEW로 60분 처리한 후, SAHW로 처리하였을 때는 중량대비 10배, 120분 처리, 중량대비 20배, 90분 처리로 일반세균수는 약 4.0 log CFU/g, 황색포도상구균은 규제치(log 2.0 CFU/g 이하) 이하로 감소하였으며 대장균은 검출되지 않았다. 초음파 세정기에 오징어 반가공품과 중량대비 20배의 TW, SHS, SAHW를 각각 넣어 UW 처리한 후 미생물 오염도를 조사한 결과, SAHW로 60분간 처리하였을 때 일반세균은 검출한계(< 1.00 log CFU/g) 이하로 감소하였으며 황색포도상구균은 규제치 이하로 감소하여 가장 좋은 저감효과를 나타내었다. 대장균의 경우, SAHW 10분간 처리로도 검출한계 이하로 감소하여 SAHW와 UW의 병용이 조미오징어 반가공품 미생물 저감화에 가장 효과가 좋은 것을 알 수 있었다.

        The effects of ultrasound and enzyme treatments on reducing sugar production from Korean 6-row barley Dahyang during the mashing process of brewing were studied. The concentration of reducing sugar produced by the traditional method was 41.5 mg/mL. The treatment of both the ultrasound at 400 W and amyloglucosidase (0.1 U/mL) increased the reducing sugar concentration produced in the mashing process by 15% compared to the traditional method. In addition, both treatments reduced the total mashing time from 115 min to 70 min. The combination of ultrasound and amyloglucosidase treatment increased the reducing sugar production yield by 17% during mashing, in comparison with the traditional method.

        All crude oil carries a little of water, sand, and mineral sediment molecules tightly bounded with hydrocarbons. The result is the gradual precipitation of these heavier elements into thick, granular petroleum by products known as crude oil sludge. The oily sludges in ship tanks and in storage facilities have to be treated efficiently in order to keep the security and the capacity of storage facilities, to protect a serious environmental pollution, and to retrieve lost resource. The oily sludge treatment system should be designed to satisfy requirements mentioned in safe work condition. As a basic study, in this paper, an oily sludge treatment system by ultrasonic waves was proposed. Then, the features of ultrasonic energy and recovery of sludge with ultrasonic waves are investigated by experiments. As results, we found that ultrasonic waves are a new energy to flow oil sludge environment-friendly in safe work condition. In addition, it was shown that ultrasonic energy is more efficient than thermal energy in treating oil sludge, and that the volume of wastes for disposal is reduced remarkably.

        본 연구에서는 집속초음파에 의한 하지정맥류 치료에서 치료의 효율과 안전성을 높이기 위한 영상유도 알고리즘을 제안하고자 하였다. 하지정맥류가 발생한 위치에 따라 영상 유도 기법을 달리하여 알고리즘을 수립 하였다. 심부성 하지정맥류의 경우는 획득된 초음파영상에서 혈관의 가로 단면 영상을 추출하고 혈관중심부의 목표영역을 표시하도록 하였으며, 표재성 하지정맥류의 경우에는 인체의 표재정맥에서 획득한 CCD 카메라 영상에서 혈관 영역을 분리한 영상을 기반으로 한 영상 유도 시스템을 제작하고 하지정맥류 진행 정도에 따라 각기 다른 알고리즘을 설계 하였다. 실험결과 초음파 영상 기반의 알고리즘은 전체적으로 최대 830 ㎛ 정도의 낮은 오차를 보였으나 CCD 영상 기반의 알고리즘은 일부 데이터에서 최대 8.3 mm 정도의 오차를 보였다. 이에 표재성 하지정맥류 영상 유도 알고리즘에 대해서는 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 예상되며 이후 간단한 시스템을 구성함으로써 혈관 추적의 정확도를 평가할 필요성이 있을 것으로 예상된다.

        In this study, enhancement of phosphorus and nitrogen recovery efficiency from livestock manure through Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate (MAP) crystallization method has been suggested as an alternative to solve the problems of the existing phosphorus resource recovery method. It can become a useful fertilizer. This study focused on improvement of phosphorus resource recovery by changing energy density of ultrasonic dose for MAP crystallization. Solubilization rate (as phosphate/phosphorus) of phosphorus in livestock manure was measured by ultrasonic treatment. The energy density range of 100-50,000 of ultrasonic dose was determined. Optimal ultrasonic energy density was 1,000 dose as 64.5% of phosphate ratio. However, when the higher than 1,000 dose of ultrasonic energy density did not more improve phosphate solubilization ratio. Consequently, when use ultrasonic treatment at 1,000 dose of energy density, the phosphorus could recover approximately 65% from livestock manure by MAP crystallization. Moreover, this MAP becomes more valuable due to its nature as a slow-release fertilizer.
