        The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of sleep duration on dietary habits and body composition of university students. Sleep duration has recently been added to the list of risk factors for obesity. However, studies on this topic are fairly limited particularly in Korea. We studied the relationship between the duration of sleep and obesity principally based on body mass index and %body fat in university students. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on a total of 312 university students. The subjects enrolled for this study were divided into two groups: (1) those with sleep duration of 〈7 hours (148 students) and (2) those with sleep duration of 〉7 hours (164 students). Based on a self-reporting method, the participants filled up the questionnaires for more than 20 minutes. Based on the overall data obtained, we observed that most students (52.88%) skipped breakfast. This was mainly due to shortage of time (60.58%). We also observed that self-reporting dietary preferences included eating irregular meals (49.04%), overeating (19.55%), imbalanced diet (16.35%), and skipping meals (9.94%). It was found that cookies were the favorite snacks in the majority of the participants (50%). Our data reveal that the body mass index, fat mass, visceral fat, and subcutaneous fat, respectively of the shorter sleep duration group (〈7 h/day) were 23.78 kg/m2, 19.13 kg, 2.23 kg, and 11.15 kg. In contrast, in those of the control group (7 h/day), these values were found to be 21.84 kg/m2, 13.88 kg, 1.56 kg, and 12.11 kg. We also observed that there were significant correlations of sleep duration with body mass index (p〈0.05), fat mass (p〈0.01), visceral fat (p〈0.01), and beck depression score (p〈0.01). Our data suggest that the body mass index in the shorter sleep duration group was higher than that of the control group; however, %fat, visceral fat, and subcutaneous fat in the shorter sleep duration group were found to be higher than those of the control group. The data obtained through our study suggest that short sleep duration is clearly associated with a modest increase in general and abdominal obesity particularly in university students.

        무용수는 공연에 대한 스트레스, 식이 조절, 근골격계 손상 등으로 신체조성의 수준이나 골밀 도에 문제가 있는 것으로 알려지고 있다. 이러한 문제로 인하여 한국무용수가 가지고 있는 신체 조성과 골밀도의 특성을 평가하여 건강상태를 파악하고 그에 따른 관리가 이루어질 필요가 있 다. 따라서, 본 연구는 dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA)를 이용하여 한국무용 전공 여대생 10명과 일반 여대생 10명의 신체조성과 골밀도를 비교분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 신체조성은 측정된 DEXA의 결과에서 body mass index(BMI), 체지방률, 근육량, 제지방량을 사용하였으며 골 밀도는 팔, 다리, 척추, 골반 부위의 골밀도 값을 사용하였다. 연구결과 두 집단 간의 BMI(p=.313), 체지방률(p=.060), 근육량(p=.264), 제지방량(p=.272)의 신 체조성은 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었으며, 팔(p=.055), 다리(p=.105), 척추(p=.276), 골반 (p=.126) 부위의 골밀도 또한 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 결론적으로 한국무용 전공 여대 생과 일반 여대생의 신체조성 및 골밀도의 차이는 없었다. 이러한 연구결과는 한국무용수에게 한국무용과 식이 섭취 경향이 골밀도와 신체조성을 부정적으로 변화시키지 않았으며 오히려 긍 정적인 영향을 준 가능성이 시사되었다.

        This study investigated the effect of salt preference on dietary habits and the body composition of university students. The subjects were divided into two groups: 85 students who dislike salt (salt-dislike (SD) group) and 104 students who like salt (salt-like (SL) group). We found that the SL group showed a higher preference for sweet, sour, spicy, and bitter flavors compared to the SD group. There was no significant difference in the frequency of eating breakfast according to the salt taste preference. The meal speed of the SL group was significantly higher than the SD group (p〈0.01) and the body mass index of the SL group (22.59kg/m2) was higher than SD group (21.04kg/m2). The fat mass of the SL group (15.30 kg) was higher than the SD group (12.80 kg) (p〈0.01). Salt preference and snack intake frequency had a significant and positive correlation with fat mass. The frequency of eating breakfast, and meal speed also showed a significant and positive correlation with subcutaneous fat. In conclusion, the SL group eats relatively more, speedily and frequently intakes snacks and carbonated drinks, likely resulting in higher body and subcutaneous fat. These results suggest salt preference is related to food choice, influences unreasonable eating habits, and possibly changes body composition. Taste preferences should therefore be considered for dietary consulting and nutritional education.

        The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation among bone mineral density(BMD), body composition and body circumference on 20's college women in Hwaseong. A total of 86 subjects were measured with BMD and body composition and body circumference. To evaluate the correlation between BMD and body composition, bone density and body weight, body mass index(BMI), lean body mass, muscle mass, fat mass and body fat mass were compared. The results of this study, weight was considered the strong correlation with BMD than the height and BMI seems to be greater significance rather than the lumbar spine and femur BMD. In addition, the relationship between body composition and BMD, lean body mass, muscle mass, body fat mass were the most relevant factors and BMD. The relationship between BMD and body circumference that have been difficult because of not enough previous studies but somewhat the study showed that association.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the body composition, biochemical parameters, and consumption of convenience foods according to β-3 adrenergic receptor polymorphism in university students. A survey was conducted on a total of 486 students - 189 males and 297 females. Based on a self-reporting method, questionnaires were administered for over 20 minutes, and β-3 adrenergic receptor and blood samples were also analyzed. The genotype frequencies of β-3 adrenergic receptor polymorphism were Trp/Trp homozygote (73.0%) and Trp/Arg heterozygote (27.0%) in male students. For the female students, the distribution of genotypes was Trp/Trp (71.0%) and Trp/Arg (29.0%). There were no differences according to biochemical parameters (ALT, cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and hemoglobin) or body composition. Males with TT genotype frequently ate Ramyon (2.40±0.52), Cup Ramyon (2.37±0.39), Kimchi (2.23±0.61), and frozen meat (2.00±0.44), whereas males with TA genotype ate Fries (frozen food) (1.90±0.79), Smoked meat (1.67±0.81), and Canned fruit (1.64±0.81). Females with TT genotype frequently ate Frozen fries (2.21±0.35), Kimbab (2.12±0.44), and Ramyon (1.85±0.40), whereas females with TA genotype frequently ate Kimchi (1.73±0.98), Fries (frozen food) (1.46±0.26), and Cup Ramyon (1.30±0.34). When questioned about satisfaction about body shape, 22.8 and 60.8% of those with TT genotype answered that they were 'satisfied' or needed to 'lose weight', respectively, whereas 18.0 and 63.9% of those with TA genotype answered that they were 'satisfied' or needed to 'lose weight', respectively. In conclusion, this study found no significant effects in terms of β-3 adrenergic receptor polymorphism, which suggests that health-promoting education needs to be developed so that university students appropriately recognize their bodies and control their weight in desirable ways. Therefore, it is necessary to educate individuals with TT genotype how to buy reasonable foods by understanding the interrelationship between convenience foods and health care and by checking the nutrition index labels on convenience foods. Thus, it is recommended that a health-promoting program be developed for the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

        The purpose of this study is to investigate and reveal the effects that the complex exercise training consisting of aerobic exercise and strength training(sit up, push up) that everyone can easily practice regardless of a time and a place in order to manage practically the physical strength of the aged affects the difference on their body composition and the change of physical fitness level. Looking into the change of body composition of an experimental group, the weight of 2.5kg was reduced after applying complex training for 12 weeks and the body fat mass of 2.65kg was reduced. Also, the abdominal fat of 0.13% was decreased and the muscle mass of 1.56kg was increased. For the change factors of physical fitness, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, balance and flexibility excluding agility showed significant improvement after applying complex exercise training. The improvement of health fitness of the aged under this study was significantly effective to improve specified body functions which had been lowered by aging and insufficient physical activities. So, it is regarded that their health fitness is the important factor to improve the activity competence required for daily life and to lead healthy living by the improved activity competence. Henceforth, it needs to study more the complex composition of several sports, exercise intensity and the frequency based on the previous researches and studies. In addition, it needs to develop the complex exercise training in accordance with various characteristics such as a sex of the aged, an age, a physical fitness level, environment, a disease and the program in consideration of the efficacy and safety during training.

        To elucidate the effects of an obesity control program on body composition and serum lipid levels, 31 obese elementary students (male: 25, female: 6) residing in the Gyeonggi area were evaluated and their body composition, serum total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and TG (triglyceride) were analyzed. The average age, height, weight and BMI (body mass index) were 11.52±1.00 yrs, 151.96±8.04 cm, 68.21±9.03 kg and 29.40±1.79 kg/m2 for the males, respectively, and 11.17±1.17 yrs, 147.83±5.15 cm, 65.05±10.86 kg and 29.62±3.24 kg/m2 for the females, respectively. There was a significant decrease in BMI for males (p〈0.001) and females (p〈0.05). There were also significant changes in all of the biochemical levels evaluated before and after the study. Specifically, the total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and TG level decreased after the obesity control program, while the HDL-cholesterol level increased after the program. These results indicate that obesity control programs do change the BMI, serum total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and TG levels in obese elementary students. Thus, obesity control programs are urgently needed to prevent degenerative disease and decrease obesity among children in elementary school.

        The objective of this study was to investigate the consumption pattern of snacks-containing trans-fatty acid in adolescents living in the Kwang-ju area of Korea, and to analyze the relevance toward their eating behaviors, body composition, nutrient intakes, and consumption frequency of snacks-containing trans fatty acid. A survey questionnaire was developed in order to investigate general environmental factors, eating behavior, nutritional knowledge, and the consumption frequency of snacks-containing trans fatty acid. A total of 312 middle school students were surveyed. The collection rate was 97% and ultimately 282 cases were analyzed. Anthropometric measurements, body composition data, and nutrient intakes were also collected. The consumption frequencies for snacks-containing trans-fatty acid were negatively correlated with food behavior scores (p〈0.01) however, pocket money and snack intake frequency per day were positively correlated with consumption frequency. Also, snack consumption frequency had some correlation with the subjects' anthropometric measurements and body composition data such as total body water (p〈0.01), body protein (p〈0.01), body minerals (p〈0.01), and skeletal muscle mass (p〈0.01). Finally, the consumption frequency of snacks-containing trans fatty acid was significantly correlated with calcium intake (p〈0.05), it also showed correlations with vitamin A, retinol, β-carotene, and folic acid intake, although statistical significance was not verified.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects that body composition, nutrient intake, and biochemical indices have on skin status, as well as their associations with skin health status, by assessing 44 female university students. The subjects were classified into 3 groups according to skin sensitivity: sensitive skin (n=11), slightly sensitive skin (n=24), and normal skin (n=9). The study included anthropometric measurements and body composition analyses, dietary intake evaluations, blood chemical analyses, and skin health status assessments. Based on % body fat, the results indicated the subjects were moderately obese (29.6%). Obesity indices were not different among the groups, but the sensitive skin group tended to have higher skinfold thickness. Dry skin was determined as the skin type of all subjects. In the sensitive skin groups, U-zone and T-zone sebum were significantly lower (p〈0.05), and spots were significantly higher (p〈0.05) than in the normal skin group. In terms of nutrient intakes, the sensitive skin groups consumed significantly lower amounts of P and vitamins A and E (p〈0.05). There were no significant differences in serum lipid fractions or total antioxidant status among the groups. In correlation coefficients analysis, skin elasticity had significant negative correlations with subscapular and midaxillary skinfold thickness, body protein, and body minerals (p〈0.05). Wrinkling had positive correlations with triceps and thigh skinfold thickness (p〈0.05). Skin evenness had negative correlations with energy intake, vitamins A, B1, B2, C, E, niacin, and zinc (p〈0.05), as well as folate and P (p〈0.01) and vitamin B6 (p〈0.001). A similar correlation tendency was observed for spots and nutrient intake, showing negative correlations with vitamins A, B6, and E, as well as folate, Fe, and P. U-zone sebum showed significant positive correlations with serum levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides. From these findings, skin health status appears to be affected by both nutrient intake and body composition. Therefore, having a proper balance between dietary intake and body composition may influence skin health status in females with sensitive skin.

        본 연구에서는 체성분 측정용 스마트 의류의 프로토타입을 개발하고 평가함으로써 헬스케어 의류로써의 개발 가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 직물 전극을 사용하여 개발된 두 가지 타입의 실험의복을 피험자에게 착용하도록 한 후 자세의 변화 및 1차 착용, 탈의 후 2차 착용에 따른 체성분을 측정한 결과, 동일 자세 내에서와 탈의 후 재착용 시에도 비교적 일관성 있는 측정치를 얻을 수 있었으며, 동일 자세에서는 의복 유형 및 반복 착용에 관계 없이 비교적 일관된 임피던스 측정치를 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 착용자의 신체 부위별 측정도 가능한 것으로 분석되어 향후 본 연구를 바탕으로 체성분 측정용 스마트 의류 개발이 가능할 것이라 판단된다.

        평균 연령 10.8세인 비만 아동 17명을 대상으로 12주간 영양교육을 중심으로 한 체중조절 프로그램을 실시한 결과 비만도와 BMI에서는 유의적인 변화를 보이지 않았으나 허리둘레 및 엉덩이 둘레가 유의적으로 감소하였고, HDL-콜레스테롤이 유의적으로 증가하였다. 지방 조직 분비 호르몬-resistin, adiponectin, leptin의 수준은 체중조절 프로그램 실시전과 후에 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. Resistin과 leptin의 변화량은 BMI 변화량과 양의 관계를, adiponect의 변화량은 음의 관계를 나타내 체위와의 상관성을 보여주었으나 본 연구만으로 이들 호르몬들과 체위변화와의 상관성을 규명하기에는 부족했다. 또한 체중조절 프로그램 후 열량 외에 무기질과 비타민 등 대부분의 영양소 섭취가 감소하여 체중조절 프로그램을 진행할 때 열량섭취는 줄이면서 미량 영양소의 섭취는 유지할 수 있게 올바른 식품을 선택할 수 있도록 하는 교육이 강화되어야 할 것이다. 본 연구는 비교적 단기간의 체중조절프로그램의 효과를 살펴본 것으로서, 본 연구결과를 토대로 앞으로 영양교육의 내용을 수정하고, 체조성 변화에 대한 연구를 강화하며 좀 더 장기적인 체중조절 프로그램을 수행한다면 아동 비만 치료에 더 좋은 효과를 낼 수 있을 것이라 사료된다. 또한 비만과 체지방분비호르몬의 상관성에 대한 후속연구도 필요한 것으로 본다.

        본 연구에서는 20대 초반의 남, 여를 대상으로 초음파 방식으로 측정된 골밀도와 신체조성 및 배근력의 관계에 대해 알아보았다. D대학에 재학 중인 61명의 학생에 대해 IRB 승인과 참여자 동의 후 설문조사, 초 음파방식 골밀도 및 신체조성, 배근력을 측정하였다. 골밀도는 주로 사용하는 측 종골을 측정하여 T-값을 두 그룹(T-score≥-1.0; T-score<-1.0)으로 나누었다. 생체전기 저항법을 이용하여 신체조성을 측정하였고, 배근력은 2회 측정하여 평균값을 구하였다. 모든 통계분석은 SPSS ver. 22.0 을 사용하여 실시하였다. 신체 활동 또는 체질량지수가 증가할수록 골밀도 및 신체조성의 근육량도 증가하였다. T-값이 높은 그룹이 낮은 그룹 보다 신체조성의 근육량 및 골격근량, 신체발달이 높았지만 통계학적인 유의성은 없었다(p>0.05). 배 근력에서도 T-값이 높은 그룹이 낮은 그룹 보다 높았다(101.1 vs. 92.1, p=0.308). 남, 여그룹에서 골밀도 T- 값과 신체조성의 골격근과 근육량은 보통 수준의 유의한 양의 상관성을 보였고(p<0.05), 배근력은 신체조성의 골격근과 근육량, 신체발달에서 골밀도 보다 높은 유의한 양의 상관성을 보였다(p<0.001). 여자그룹이 남자그룹 보다 골밀도 T-값과 신체조성의 골격근과 신체발달에서 높은 상관성을 보였다. 남자 그룹에서 배근력과 골밀도의 T-값과는 유의한 상관성을 보이지 않았지만(r=0.176, p=0.319), 여자 그룹에서는 보통 수준의 유의한 상관성을 보였다(r=0.591, p=0.001). 이상과 같이 초음파 방식으로 측정된 골밀도와 신체조성, 배 근력은 상호 유의한 관련성을 보였다.

        본 연구는 여대생을 대상으로 신체활동 수준에 따른 신체구성, 신체적 자기효능감 및 스트레스의 차이를 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. 연구 대상자들의 신체활동량, 신체적 자기효능감, 스트레스 수준을 분석하기 위한 자기기입식 설문지를 작성하였고, 신체활동 수준 분류는 국제신체활동설문(IPAQ)을 통해 신체활동량을 점수화하여 저활동군, 중활동군, 고활동군으로 분류하였다. 신체활동량 분석 결과, 본 연구의 대상자들 중 53.6%는 중활동군으로 분류되었고, 46.4%는 저활동군으로 분류되었다. 신체활동 수준에 따른 체중, 체질량지수, 체지방률은 유의한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났고, 신체적 자기효능감 점수는 중활동군이 저활동군보다 유의하게 높게 나타났으며, 스트레스 점수는 중활동군이 저활동군보다 유의하게 낮게 나타났다. 따라서 신체활동 수준이 높을수록 신체적 자기효능감에 긍적적 영향을 주고, 스트레스 수준을 경감시키는 것으로 확인되었다.
