The Maillard Reaction Products (MRPs) such as Glucose-tyrosine (Glu-Tyr) and Xylose-arginine (Xyl-Arg) have antioxidant, antimutagenic, and antibacterial effects. However, to date, still little is known about the other biological effects of the MRPs. In this study, we investigated whether the fructose-tyrosine MRP, 2,4-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal (Fru-Tyr), could modulate cell cycle progression and NF-κB activity, and thereby induce apoptotic cell death of colon cancer cells. Treatment with different concentrations (10-40 μg/ ml) of Fru-Tyr for 24 h inhibited colon cancer cell (SW620 and HCT116) growth followed by induction of G₂/M phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. We also found that Fru-Tyr suppressed tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)-induced NF-κB transcriptional activity. Moreover, Fru-Tyr induced the expression of apoptotic gene, cleaved caspse-3. These results suggest that Fru-Tyr inhibited colon cancer cell growth through induction of G₂/M phase cell cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death by modulating of NF-κB.

바둑에 있어 사활 문제는 컴퓨터 바둑을 구현하기 위하여 반드시 극복되어져야 하는 기본적인 문제이다. 사활 문제와 같은 국부적인 문제를 풀기 위하여, 중요하게 고려되어야 할 사항은 어떻게 하면 게임 트리의 분기수와 그 깊이를 줄일 수 있느냐는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 게임 트리를 위한 첫 수들을 생성하기 위하여 휴리스틱 세력 함수로 눈 모양 분석이라는 초유의 방법을 적용하였다. 휴리스틱 세력 함수로 둘러싸인 돌들의 눈 모양을 분석하는 주요 목적은 아주 짧은 시간내에 둘러싸인 돌들이 살았는지, 미생(未生)인지 아니면 죽었는지를 판단하는 것이다. 만약 둘러싸인 돌들이 죽거나 미생일 경우가 높으면, 완전 게임 트리 내에서 최선의 수순을 찾아내기 위해 소요되는 엄청난 계산 시간을 절약할 수 있는 가능한 급소 점(첫 수)들로 사용될 수가 있다. 비록 눈 모양 분석기는 40% 미만의 정확도를 보였지만, 단순한 휴리스틱 세력함수로 된 눈 모양 분석기는 짧은 시간 내에 둘러싸인 돌들의 생사 여부를 판단하는 데 상당한 도움이 됨을 발견했다.

SET (Suppressor of variegation, Enhancer of zeste, and the Trithorax) domain-containing proteins are known to have methyltransferase activity at lysine residues of histone proteins. In this study, we identified a novel SET domain-containing protein from mouse and named Kodo7. Indeed, Kodo7 has methyltransferase activity at K9 residue of the H3 protein as demonstrated by a histone methyl-transferse activity assay using GST-tagged Kodo7. Confocal microscopy showed that Kodo7 is co-localized with histones in the nucleus. Interestingly, ectopic expression of Kodo7 by transient transfection induced cell death and treatment of the transfectants with a caspase-3 inhibitor, Ac-DEVD-AFC decreased Kodo7-induced apoptosis. These results suggest that Kodo7 induces apoptotic cell death through increased methylation of histones leading to transcriptional repression.

Concerns remain regarding the biocompatibility and adverse effects of dental casting alloys. The aim of this study was to understand the cytopathogenic effect of metal ions, which might be released from dental alloys, on oral squamous carcinoma(OSC) cells. The cellular morphology, viability, the type of cell death and molecular change in response to metal ion salt solutions including aluminum(Al), cobalt(Co), copper(Cu) and nickel(Ni) were examined. The values for the metal ions with the exception of AI were estimated to be between 400 and 600μM. The cells treated with the metal ions showed apoptotic change with the exception of Al ions. Metal ion-induced apoptosis was further confirmed using flow cytometric analysis. This study showed that the cytotoxicity and the mode of cell death by metal ions clearly depend on the cell type, the type of metal ion and the duration of exposure. The protein level of Rb, a tumor suppressor that affects apoptosis para-doxically, was higher in the cells treated with Co, Cu and Ni. It is believed that apoptosis and cell damage in the OSC cells treated with Co, Cu or Ni can be evoked by the regulation of Rb.

Nitric oxide (NO) has been known to inf1uence cell fate through apoptotic or necrotic cell death. Here, we investigated the role of nitric oxide on the growth and viability of immortalized human salivary gland (HSG) cells 띠 vitro. Treatrnent of HSG with a NO donor, S-nitroso-N-acetyl-DL-penκi1lamine (SNAP), significantly diminished the growth rate of HSG in a concentration dependent manner. However, this retardation of cell비ar growth rate was not corresponded to the apoptotic cell death of HSG cells, because there were no characteristic apopto디c features such as condensation of nuclear chromatin, nuclear fragmentation, and the apoptotic peak of propidium iodide (PI)-stained nuclei by flow cytome띠. 까ùs implies that HSG cells are resistant to NO-mediated 다π。to:잉city. 1n SNAP treated HSG cells, cell cycle analysis revealed that the number of G2/M phase increased markedly, according to while the percentage of cells in GO/Gl and S phases was not significantly affected. "Man can embody truth but he cannot know it," said Yeats a few days before his death. And this truth is embodied in the two “death poems,” "Under Ben Bulben" and "The Black Tower". How is that truth embodied? And what is its content? A close reading of the two poems gives some sort of significant answer to that question. The truth Yeats tried to embody may be "Unity of Being", the poet's eternal pursuit. Throughout his long poetic career, wearing various masks, and in various ways, Yeats sought to accomplish its poetic embodiment. To solve multi-levelled divisions of being, Yeats sought persistently to "remake" and "renew" himself, his self as an archetype of the Irish people. "Under Ben Bulben" and "The Black Tower" suggest the poet's dream as returning to and restoring the heroic Celticism and integrating it into making Ireland. In "Under Ben Bulben", drawing on the Celtic heroes' wisdom and strength, the poet asserts his philosophy of reincarnation and man's profane perfection, and, also, the greatness of artists' creative power. After presenting his selected history of the great artists, the poet asks the Irish poets to succeed to his poetic dream. And, then, he casts cold eyes on life, on death, renewing himself as one of the heroes of his dream. In "The Black Tower", the poet's inner drama upon the threshold of death, the tower, his old symbol, reveals itself as a microcosm of Ireland that the poet wishes to defend against his enemies by death. In this poem, the poet does not give up his dream to the final, even if the dark and gloomy mood is dominant. Finally, for the tower's defense, the poet commits "an epic suicide", to become a legendary Irish hero himself. Thus, the poet embodies the truth he has found.

This paper is trying to read the text with the current theory decolonialism. To this, The writer adopted the text Seamus Heaney's early poetry Death of a Naturalist. Seamus Heaney is known to be the most important poet since W. B. Yeats as a winner of Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995. I assume that a growing interest among readers reflects this prevailing enthusiasm for his work. His method and idea owe more to decolonial attitude more than that of naturalist or romantist. This seems to be an attractive factor to draw a reader's attention. In fact, his poetry has the proper qualities to absorb the devotees of 'decolonialism' still dominant in dealing with the poetry. Decolonialism as a literary theory is becoming an influential textual strategy rather than remaining as one of the academic master discourse. So far, the established textual reading theories have been closely related to logocentrism, and they failed to be acknowledge as objective way of reading. For this reason, the decolonialism has an important implication in the sense that it subverts the colonial ideology within the context of colonized society, and at the same time, reconstructs counter-discourse to find out self-identity and decolonized space. Meanwhile, Heaney have been witnessed historical moments of the death of his mother land, Ireland as well as of the Irish people, as the history of Ireland manifests. In doing so, the Irish people broke the cycle of imperial situation. The consciousness of them became consciousness of the nation. By way of this historical experience of authentic decolonization, Heaney's aesthetics became, more and more, politicized against the crisis which the repressive force of imperialism caused to occur. Under this traumatic disasters of Ireland, Heaney's poetic quest makes him and practical struggle against the colonial power in a poetic way. The main subject of his poetry is to find out his Irish identity with the past tradition and its continuity. The subject is linked with the question to find out the Celtic identity between the past and the present which is dominated by colonialism. To regard this, this paper analyses Heaney's text focusing on the decolonialism expressed by his poetry. I try to examine the process of his poetic writings and its attitude against English colonialism. To do this, My major interest is in his Celtic myth and language employed in his poetry. And I attempt to search for the true Irishness which Heaney makes every effort to materialize the reality of Ireland in his poetry. To conclude, the decolonial discourse and its textual strategy has an tactics and also has an important implications that lay bare the dominant ideology hidden by the seemingly impersonal intention of colonialism.

A probation system of death penalty can lie halfway between death penalty and life sentence. Since grotesque and crude murder cases continually happen in Korea, it is difficult to abolish death penalty right now. We need to introduce the probation system of death penalty, which may be regarded as an interim stage for abolishment of death penalty. I have investigated the current death penalty system in China and found the following problems: There are many kinds of crimes punishable by death penalty, the appropriate condition is not shown to apply the probation system of death penalty, and the number of execution is the largest in the world. However, the probation system of death penalty has the following advantages: It is a humanistic system to head for the return to society, a positive effect of correction can be anticipated during the probation, and danger of misjudgement can be minimized. Moreover, in regard to the probation system of death penalty, I have explored a range of probation judgement, the probation period, the screening procedures of application, and the cases of remission.
