The study is aimed at exploring impacts of self-assessment on students’ self-regulated learning and satisfaction at a university setting. Twenty-one students taking a foreign language pedagogy course participated in the study. Weekly self-assessment was assigned for 8 weeks to see if it improved students’ self-regulated learning. Student questionnaire was collected twice on the 7th and the 15th week; in addition, in-depth interviews were conducted to gather students’ perceptions of self-assessment in terms of its benefits and drawbacks. Findings based on quantitative and qualitative analysis are as follows. Firstly, significant positive impacts of self-assessment were found in all three domains of self-regulated learning: cognitive, motivational, and behavioral. Secondly, students found self-assessment overall satisfactory and useful in their studies. In-depth interviews further revealed that self-assessment helped to regulate their study behaviors effectively, which, in turn, led to a better understanding of the subject matter and greater participation in class activities. At the same time, however, some students expressed some burden as a drawback of self-assessment. Pedagogical implications and research suggestions for future study were discussed.

The forms and demands of language learning are changing in the pandemic era. Learners no longer rely solely on a formal language curriculum. Instead, they are using various informal language learning (ILL) channels. Although informal language learning has been in the spotlight and is growing, more research on ILL is needed. In this study, ILL taking place through an online community was analyzed. Articles from the Korean learning community (r/Korean in Reddit) were collected, and the topic modeling technique, Latent Dirichlet Allocation, was conducted on the collected data. As a result, seven major topics were selected. The most common topics in all posts were issues faced by beginner learners, followed by vocabulary and sentence meanings, interest in Chinese characters and applications of Korean language skills, culture and daily life, translation, online learning materials, and Korean phonics. Through this, the interests of ILL learners and the characteristics of learners could be identified. Due to the nature of ILL, in which a formal curriculum does not exist, it was found that questions about general strategies for learning and questions that could not be solved in formal language education were most prominent. In addition, the characteristics of ILL learners who actively sought learning content and materials were also found.

The development of new technology, new economy and new society requires us to cultivate compound talents of knowledge + technology + skills。 But There is a dislocation and inconsistency between higher education and the development of new technology, new economy and new society. If such inconsistencies are to be overcome, "capability-based" education is particularly important. This thesis explores the domestic and foreign research background of service learning in foreign language learning, and investigates and analyzes empirical cases of service learning in Chinese language teaching at domestic and abroad. According to my investigation, there are only four research papers on the use of service science in the Chinese classroom: Two of these papers are examples of Chinese culture teaching and Heritage language learning for Chinese American students,The other two are Chinese teaching research for foreign students in China, and Chinese teaching in Korean classrooms. Based on the above analysis, several suggestions are made for the application of Korean university service learning in college Chinese lessons.

Tandem Language Learning method is a form of autonomous foreign language learning. Its main purpose is to better grasp the target language or understand the target culture. The two learning partners are not only foreign language learners but also native speakers. They are also "experts" of their respective languages, countries and cultures. In this kind of communication, they will break the barrier of language and remove cross-cultural misunderstandings. Tandem Language Learning is a good opportunity to continue to improve the learner's ability to express the target language, as it provides the opportunity to communicate with a native speaker and makes intercultural learning possible. Tandem Language Learning method is also a learning method of PBL (Problem-based learning) model. It not only expands learners' ability to judge language, but also improves learners' problem-solving ability and team cooperation ability. The purpose of this paper is to simply introduce the tandem language learning method that has not been widely promoted in Asia and to analyze the feasibility of applying the learning method in Chinese and Korean language teaching. Investigation and Analysis of Application of Tandem Language Learning Method in Chinese and Korean Classrooms of Korean Universities. Summarizes several problems that have arisen in the application of this learning method, and provide some references for effectively improving the teaching level of Chinese and Korean.

“Action-oriented Approach (AA)” as a new teaching method has taken an important role in teaching and learning of French Education during past 10 years. However, even though the new teaching method is very welcome for educators, now it is the time that we have to consider whether the key principle and fundamental notion of this approach is suitable for our language education environments and is theoretically appropriate for education. For that, it is necessary that we have to carefully examine this “Action-oriented Approach” from two points of views. First of all, from the angle of foreign language education, we need to verify whether this new approach could be appropriately applied in teaching and learning of Korean foreign language education or not. Secondly, from a societal perspective, we need to examine how this method, considering language education as everyday life itself, can handle some critical perspectives in the point of “status in quo” of “AA”. It has been criticized that language education as everyday life itself can make learners in everyday life to unconsciously acquire maintaining the ‘status quo’ during actions such as “educational inequality”. It is expected that this kind of examination will suggest us an improved way of “AA” for more effective and appropriate practice of French Education, and will give us an opportunity to think about the better way of teaching and learning model by “AA” in Korea.

Han characters may be taught both as components of the mother tongue as well as elements of certain foreign languages. This paper centres on understanding approaches to the teaching of writing of Han characters as an aspect of foreign language learning. The mastery of Han characters may be considered a key objective in mother-tongue as well as foreign language teaching in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan, but is only considered as foreign language teaching in Korea. However, the written forms taught in schools in the five above-mentioned locations differ markedly from one another. Japan has strict stipulations about written forms of Japanese; the governments of China, Taiwan and Hong Kong adhere to prescribed benchmarks on the written form of Han characters; while Korea only sets requirements on fonts. Although Hong Kong supposedly has a recommended benchmark, differences in written forms can be found in primary and secondary school textbooks. This leads to problems in teaching and assessment since few teachers have a comprehensive understanding on the difference in written forms of Han characters found in Hong Kong and elsewhere in South-East Asia. This paper looks at differences in the written forms of Han characters in the five regions mentioned above, and at some of the issues associated with these differences.

This study investigated the relationship among foreign language learning anxiety, achievement goals, and multidimensional perfectionism.Incorporating approach and avoidance into mastery goal and performance goal, a 2X2 framework of achievement goals comprised mastery approach, mastery avoidance, performance approach, and performance avoidance in this article. Three factors, self-oriented, others-oriented, and socially-prescribed perfectionism, were explored to understand the relationship between perfectionism and foreign language learning anxiety. Results indicated that all factors of achievement goals and only socially-prescribed perfectionism were correlated to the foreign language learning anxiety. Analysis of the regression between the scale of language learning anxiety and the other factors showed that master approach, mastery avoidance, and performance approach could predict the language learning anxiety significantly

With the emergence of sociolinguistic approach in second language learning, instructors have begun to acknowledge the native language (L1) as a legitimate tool with the potential to facilitate second language (L2) learning mainly in output-based tasks. This study focuses on how the use of L1 by L2 learners affects their task achievement. Two communicative tasks were used, and tasks were carried out by 32 high school students in L2 only, or in L1 and L2 during group test sessions held on different days. Tape-recorded transcripts of learners when performing the tasks, interviews, and questionnaires were collected and analysed to investigate effect on the use of L1. The findings suggest that during performing the tasks, learners used their L1 to complete their tasks for a variety of functions. Through the L1, they explained and negotiated the task each other, or checked their understanding or compared answers to the task against their peers. To allow the learners to use of their L1 was even more effective than to urge them to use L2 only in a foreign language class using task. Further investigation indicates that, if one of goals of output-based introduction is considered as the successful completion of the task, the learners’ use of L1 may be beneficial to attain the goal when performing completely in L2 is impossible or beyond the learners’ linguistic ability.

This study attempts to examine the existence of foreign language anxiety in e-Learning situations, and then identify relationships between the anxiety and learner background factors. A total of 162 EFL learners participated in the survey. Their anxiety was measured by the e-Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (e-FLCAS). The results suggest that foreign language learners do indeed experience anxiety in e-Learning classrooms. A majority of the participants acknowledged having experienced specific kinds of anxiety in cyber classes: worry over e-Learning education, online test anxiety, learning style conflicts, and apprehension of native teachers. In addition, e-Learning anxiety was found to be significantly related to three background factors (gender, academic backgrounds, and English proficiency). The results also provide a potential explanation of anxiety-producing contexts in cyber classrooms, the sources of anxiety, and coping strategies that students use to lower their anxiety.
