        2019년에 서남해안 지역인 고창군의 옥수수 밭 주변에서 성페로몬을 이용하여 열대거세미나방(Spodoptera frugiperda) 성충을 효과적으로 모니터 링하는 방법을 조사하였다. 총 함량이 300 또는 1000 ㎍인 2종류 성분 조성의 성페로몬 미끼[(100%) (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate and (2%) (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate]를 설치한 깔대기형 트랩과 델타형 트랩 중에서 열대거세미나방은 300 ㎍ 미끼의 깔대기형 트랩에서 8월 6일에 처음 잡혔고 가장 많이 포획되었다. 또한 깔대기형 트랩 모두에서 비표적 종인 뒷흰가는줄무늬밤나방(Mythimna loreyi)이 많이 포획되었다. 총 함량이 1000 ㎍인 위의 2종류 성분 조성과 4종류 성분 조성의 미끼[(100%) (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, (8%) (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate, (2%) (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate, and (1%) (Z)-9-dodecenyl acetate]를 설치한 날개형 트랩에서 열대거세미나방은 비슷한 수준의 낮은 포획수를 보였으나 뒷흰가는줄무늬밤나방은 4종류 성분 조성의 미끼에서 훨씬 더 많이 포획되었다. 성페로몬 트랩에 포획된 열대거세미나방 70마리의 미토콘드리아 시토크롬 옥시다제 1(CO1)의 부분 염기서열(1,004 bp)을 이용하여 계통수를 분석한 결과, 두 개의 종내 변이군으로 나눠졌으며 66마리가 CO1-RS로, 나머지 4마리는 CO1-CS로 분지되었다. 또한 두 개의 CO1 변이군과 기주식물계통(벼, 옥수수)에서 일관되게 차이가 있는 총 12개의 CO1 단일염기다형성(SNP)이 확인되었으며, 전체 73마리 중 4마리만 CO1-CS 그룹(옥수수계통 포함)과 동일한 패턴을 보였으며 나머지 69마리는 CO1-RS그룹(벼계통 포함)과 같았다.

        블루베리혹파리(Dasineura oxycoccana)는 우리나라에서 2010년에 처음 발견된 이래로 지금은 전국의 블루베리 재배지에서 발견되고 있는 외래해충이다. 이 해충의 생태 조사와 방제 연구를 위해 효과적인 유인제 개발이 필요한 실정이다. 비록 캐나다 개체군으로부터 이 해충의 암컷 성페로몬이 이미 보고되었을지라도, 캐나다 연구자들은 이 물질의 질량 스펙트럼이 아닌 기체크로마토그래피의 머무름 시간 비교를 통해 성페로몬을 동정하고 야외 유인시험을 통해 확인하였다. 우리는 블루베리혹파리 유인제 개발의 첫 단계로서 이 종의 성페로몬을 암컷으로부터 분리하여 천연 물질의 질량 스펙트럼을 확인하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 암컷 성충 21마리의 복부 추출물을 농축한 시료 속에서 이 종의 성페로몬으로 알려진 ‘2,14-diacetoxy heptadecane’을 성공적으로 분리하였다. 한편, 암컷 성페로몬의 부성분으로 추정할 수 있는 추가적인 유사물질은 발견되지 않았다

        소나무재선충은 북미가 원산으로 일본, 중국, 한국을 비롯한 동북아시아의 소나무류에 막대한 피해를 주고 있으며 포르투칼과 스페인에도 발생하여 유럽 소나무류에도 큰 위협이 되고 있다. 소나무재선충은 매개충인 Monochamus속에 의해 새로운 기주로 옮겨지기 때문에 매개충을 방제하는 것이 가장 중요하다. 국내 소나무재선충 매개충은 솔수염하늘 소와 북방수염하늘소가 보고되어 있으며 이들을 방제하기 위하여 주로 유기합성농약을 항공 살포하거나 연막기를 이용하여 살포하고 있다. 하지만 유기합성농약의 대면적 살포는 산림생태계에 큰 위협요인이 되고 있다. 본 발표에서는 유기합성농약을 대체하기 위하여 소나무재선충 매개충의 집합-성페로몬 및 카이로몬 연구 그리고 이들 유인제의 현장적용 연구 및 추후 연구방향에 대해 소개를 하고자 한다.

        Matsucoccus thunbergianae is the main forest insect pest of the Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) in the west, south and east coast of South Korea. The main damage pattern appears to be the cumulative damage over many years by the second instar fixed under the pine bark. The adult male has a pair of wings and is attracted sex pheromone emanating from the adult female so that during the mating period (Generally, middle period of March) adult male is attracted to the adult female which has no wing. Using this mating behavior from the adult male, we developed sex pheromone trap to reduce mating success rate by reducing the density of the adult male in the field. In this study, In the indoor induction experiments and the field experiments, sex pheromone trap showed high induction effect on the adult male. Thus, we expect to reduce the damage to the Japanese Black Pine by Matsucoccus thunbergianae.

        The tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura(Fabricius) is serious pest that hurts tomato crops, actives long time of the year. Without pesticide applications, sex pheromone delta traps through experiment first and second half setting during cultural seasons in glasshouse and greenhouse. We investigated captured number of S. litura both in and out side of the two type of tomato cultivated greenhouse. As a result of investigation, captured number of S. litura showed the wave and three high peak typed graph throughout 10 months experiment. First time expression of S. litura was late April in outside installed traps and after that occurrence rate increased gradually until late August. In september, the rate decreased remarkably to middle November in both in and out side treated traps. The result also expressed that captured average number of S. litura in inside of the greenhouse were 8~10 units, and were 15~20units in outside treated traps. Simultaneous installation of internal and external sex pheromone traps succeeded in eliminating a considerable number of S. litura male moths, and the number of larvae was expected to be considerably reduced. Consequently in the experiment, captured male number of S. litura were about 220 units in outside, on the other about 80 of S. litura captured in inside installed traps.

        Azuki bean beetle (ABB), Callosobruchus chinensis (L.) is a field-to-storage pest of legumes and its female produces sex pheromone with two isomeric components, 2Z-homofarnesal and 2E-homofarnesal. Two day old virgin adults were exposed to 0, 200, 300, 400, 500 & 600 Gy gamma radiation and effect on longevity, fecundity, sterility and pheromone production were studied. Longevity (female; P < 0.001, male; P < 0.001) and fecundity (P < 0.001) were dose-dependently affected by the gamma irradiation. Both adults were totally sterilized by the tested doses of gamma irradiation as depicted by the null hatchability of laid eggs. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for solid phase micro extraction revealed that both of the pheromone components were significantly but not completely reduced by 300 Gy. It is a pre-requisite for a successful sterile insect technology that the sterility of ABB is induced without the total disruption of calling behavior.

        In this study, we isolated and identified an aggregation-sex pheromone from Monochamus saltuarius, the major insectvector of the pine wood nematode in Korea. Adult male of M. saltuarius produces 2-undecyloxy-1-ethanol, which is knownto be an aggregation-sex pheromone in other Monochamus species. We performed field experiments to determine the attractivenessof the pheromone and other synergists. More M. saltuarius adult beetles were attracted to traps baited with the pheromonethan to unbaited traps. Ethanol and (-)-α-pinene interacted synergistically with the pheromone. Traps baited with pheromone+(-)-α-pinene+ethanol were more attractive to M. saltuarius adults than traps baited with pheromone, (-)-α-pinene, or ethanol alone.Ipsenol, ipsdienol, and limonene were also identified as synergists of the aggregation-sex pheromone for M. saltuarius adults.

        경남과 전남지역의 단감원에서 밤알락명나방의 발생소장과 성페로몬샘의 성분별 및 트랩 종류별 유인력을 조사하였다. 2014년부터 2016 년까지 발생소장을 조사한 결과, 밤알락명나방은 년 3회 발생하는 것으로 조사되었다. 각 세대 성충의 발생시기는 월동세대는 4월 상순-5월 하순, 제1세대는 6월 상순-7월 하순, 제2세대는 8월 상순-10월 중순이었다. 성페로몬샘 성분별 유인력은 (Z9,E12)-tetradeca-9,12-dien-1-ol (Z9, E12-14OH) 단독 루어가 (Z)-tetradec-9-en-1-ol (Z9-14OH) 단독 루어보다 유인력이 뛰어났으며, 두 물질을 9:1로 혼합한 루어와 차이가 없었 다. 깔대기 트랩과 흰색 및 붉은색 트랩을 비교해 본 결과 트랩 종류 간에는 유인수의 차이가 없었다.

        The tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura(Fabricius), is a major pest of tomato and frequently demands control measures. The timing of insecticide application is a key factor in determining its efficiency, so an experiment was designed to investigate this. Application of insecticide was based on three criteria: (i) the number of trap-caught moths in a Delta-type trap with a commercial sex pheromone lure placed in the center of the target area, soon after plant emergence; (ii) the percentage of plants exhibiting pinhole-type damage (10% or 20%) and (iii) the percentage of plants exhibiting shot hole-type damage (10% or 20%) compared to a check plot without any control measures. We found that the number of trap-caught moths was, compared to the other methods, the best means of deciding on insecticide application in tomato plant to control the tobacco cutworm. Using pheromone traps, we obtained the best performance of the insecticide Shinnago, causing > 90% larval mortality. Without insecticide application, tomato yield reduction due to the tobacco cutworm larva damage was 27%.

        Euzophera batangensis (Lepidotera: Pyralidae) is seriously damaging trunks or branches of persimmon tree (Diospyros sp.). We tested the attractiveness of (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol (Z9-14OH) and (Z9,E12)-tetradeca- 9,12-dien-1-ol (Z9,E12-14OH) with single or blended baits at southern parts of Korea in 2014 and 2015. The monoene was not attractive at all at three places during the two years. In 2014, diene was equally or more attractive than the mixture in Jinju and Suncheon, respectively. In 2015 too, the attractiveness of diene and mixture was not different in Jinju and Munsan. Monitoring of the seasonal occurrence of E. batangesis with the sex pheromone components revealed that it occurred three times a year; the first occurrence from early April to mid May, the second from early Jun to mid July, and the third from late August to late September.

        Two Grapholita congener, G. molesta and G. dimorpha have difference in several biological characters such as flight time, emerging number/year, damage site, pupation site, and mating time although their host plants were similar. As a problem, cross-trapping was identified in each trap for monitoring. Effects on species-specific lure using minor sex pheromone components were observed in host plant orchards (apple, pear, peach, and plum) for continuative two years. Treatments of various ratios (0 to 10%) of Z8-12OH to G. molesta lure (Z8-12Ac/E8-12Ac = 95:5) allowed to increase the attraction of G. molesta, but not of G. dimorpha male. Other two minor components (14Ac and 12Ac) to G. dimorpha lure (Z8-12Ac/E8-12Ac = 85:15) were not showed species-specific responses. However, 10% treatment of Z8-14Ac to G. dimorpha lure was showed that G. molesta was decreased significantly although G. dimoprha was not affected. E8-14Ac treatment to new G. dimorpha lure (Z8-12Ac/E8-12Ac/Z8-14Ac = 85:15:10) not affected to attraction of two species. From these results, we suggest that optimum ratios for species-specific monitoring of G. molesta and G. dimorpha are Z8-12Ac/E8-12Ac/Z8-12OH = 95:55:5 and Z8-12Ac/E8-12Ac/Z8-14Ac = 85:15:10, respectively.

        Behavioral responses to the sex pheromone blends rely on genetically designed hardwired olfactory pathways, including precise detection of the specific pheromone compounds and sophisticated signal processes in the brain to interpret correct pheromone mixture information. Owing to minimized association of individual variation and acquired traits from learning in sex pheromone communication, behavioral assays can be very useful tool for understanding each step in the olfactory system. To investigate interactions between peripheral and central pathways in shaping olfactory perception, we used antennal imaginal disc transplants between phylogenetically close two heliothine moth species Heliothis virescens and Heliothis subflexa. In behavioral tests, the response patterns of the male transplants were distinct from any of normal males of either species. Neurophysiological analyses of olfactory receptor neurons in the antenna and projection neurons in the brain also supported the behavioral dissimilarities between the transplants and normal animals. Results will be discussed in light of the functional roles and developmental significances of peripheral and central olfactory pathways in pheromone communication system.

        The Citrus Leafminer (CLM) larvae creates shallow tunnels in leaves of citrus (orange, mandarins, lemons, grapefruit, etc) and commonly attacks citrus young leaves. They spread almost worldwide (North America, Asia, Australia, etc) and difficult to control by chemicals due to their small size and their behavior of leaf rolling. Due to difficult of managing, our interest is preparing pheromone to control; Z7Z11-16;Al is known as the sex pheromone of this species in Japan. While blending Z7Z11-16;Al and Z7Z11E13-16;Al (3:1 ratio) is known as the pheromone of this insect in North America. Even though commercialized and mass produced already in overseas, there had been almost no report in Korea about synthetic studies and field screening results. The control of the regio-isomers is very important in this kind of pheromone synthesis. Our strategy is the regio-selective Wittig olefination reaction between E-pent-2-enyl(triphenylphsphonium)bromide (phosphonium salt) and the counterpart aldehyde using sodium hexamethyldisilazide (NaHMDS) as a base. All the spectroscopic data (1H, 13C, GC-Mass, etc) are nicely matched with the previously reported values. The field screening in the Jeju island is currently ongoing and will be reported.

        Insect pests on cruciferous crops and their natural enemies were surveyed during 2009~2011 in Daegwallyeong highland region which has been famous for summer Kimchi cabbage production in Korea since 1970s. Totally 15 insect pests have been reported in cabbage field in Daegwallyeong. Diamondback moth (DBM, Plutella xylostella) imported cabbage worm (Artogeia rapae L.), cabbage armyworm (CAW, Mamestra brassicae L.), cabbage looper (CL, Trichoplusia ni), cabbage sawfly (Athalia rosae ruficornis Jakovlev), and turnip aphid (Liphapis pseudobrassicae (Davis)) were the dominant pest species among the 15 species. For monitoring as well as controlling insects with weak flight, yellow sticky cards (10×15㎝) were used in cabbage fields. The sticky cards were hanged on plastic stick and placed at a 2-5 m distance within cabbage field (1,000㎡). Sex pheromone traps were employed for monitoring and controlling insects with strong flight. The survey result showed that there was significantly reduced pest occurrences in treated, compared to untreated condition. Similarly, The results from the sex pheromone traps were coincident with those of sticky trap. DBM, CAW and CL were found less in the treated than untreated fields; by 67.5%, 70.6% and 44.0%, respectively. Although the control efficacy of such traps was less than that of chemical spray, the use of sticky card trap combined with sex pheromone trap could be useful management tools for controlling insect pests in cabbage fields.
