        As consumers’ interest in social responsibility (SR) has greatly increased in the last two decades, a growing body of academic research has examined the influence of consumers’ environmental consciousness on their attitudes and purchase intentions toward environment-friendly apparel products. Use of environment-friendly shopping bags (EFSB; recycled and reusable bags) is an example of how apparel retailers engage in SR. However, little research has examined consumers’ perceptions and their responses to the use of EFSB. To fill this research gap, this study examined the impact of young consumers’ perceptions of EFSB and environmental consciousness on their attitudes and purchase intentions toward apparel retailers using EFSB. An online survey was conducted for data collection. A convenience sample of 212 college students was obtained from a large mid-Southern university in the U.S. A simple linear regression analysis was conducted to test all hypotheses. Results showed that young consumers’ perceptions of EFSB positively influenced their environmental consciousness and their attitudes toward apparel retailers that use EFSB, which led to purchase intentions toward the retailers. Findings confirmed that young consumers placed a great degree of importance on EFSB and, therefore, would purchase apparel from retailers that use recycled or reusable shopping bags. These findings imply that providing EFSB is important in enhancing positive attitudes and purchase intentions toward apparel retailers.

        대형녹조류인 Ulva pertusa는 전 세계 연안에 서식하는 저서성 종으로 대발생 또는 인공구조물에 착생되어 경제적, 사회적인 측면에서 문제를 야기시키고 있다. 착생생물을 제어하기 위해 신방오제인 ziram, diruon, zinc pyrithione (ZnPT), copper pyrithione(CuPT), DBNPA, triclosan 등이 방오도료로 사용 중이나, 대형 및 미세조류를 이용한 신방오 제들의 방오능 검증과 기초적인 연구자료가 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 초기 우점착생종인 구멍갈파래의 포자를 이용하여 방오제의 효능을 검증하고 생체막 형성의 우점종인 미세조류 Nitzschia pungens를 이용한 방오능을 검증하였다. 구멍갈파래포자의 운동성 검증에서 ziram과 ZnPT는 diuron, CuPT, DBNPA, triclosan보다 50% 높은 운동성 억제를 나타내었고 착생 검증에서는 ziram이 가장 낮은 착생률 1%로 나타났으며 CuPT는 100 ㎍/L의 농도에서 다른 대조군에 비해 80%의 성장율 억제를 보였다. 본 연구의 결과로 신방오제의 방오능을 검증하여 향후 방오능 검증에 기초자료가 될 것으로 사료된다.

        해상수색구조 책임기관인 해양경비안전본부는 해양사고에 대하여 적절히 대응한 것으로 평가되어 왔으나, 최근 발생한 세월호사고 발생 직후 초기단계의 신속 효율적인 대응에 실패함으로 인해 비판을 받게되었다. 이와 관련하여 저자는 향후 발생할 수 있는 해양사고시 인명손실을 최소화하기 위한 방안을 모색하기 위해 우리나라 해역에서 발생하는 해양사고의 특징을 분석하고, 수색구조조정과 인적자원을 중심으로 국가수색구조체계를 검토·분석하였다. 그 결과, 해양경비안전본부는 특히 연안역 해양사고에 신속하게 대응하기 위하여 고속구명정 및 구조헬기를 확충하여야 한다. 그리고 현행 조정체계의 운용상 문제점을 개선하기 위해 IMO 지침에 맞춰 구조조정 본부설치를 재조정하여야 하며, 수색구조요원의 전문성 제고를 위한 의무적 교육 및 자격 제도의 도입이 필요하다.

        This study builds upon the scant brand personality (BP) literature in services and highlights its applicability to services marketing, which is critical given increasing interest in building favourable service brands. This study examines the impact of Geuens, Weijters and De Wulf’s, (2009) BP measure, an arguably theoretically superior measure of BP to Aaker’s (1997), into an accepted nomological net by Chaudhuri and Holbrook (2001), and tests the extent to which BP dimensions determine behavioural outcomes in services (Geuens et al., 2009).

        Cement stabilisation is a common method for stabilising recycled road base material and provides a longer pavement life. With cement effect, the increment of stiffness in the stabilised layer would provide better load transfer to the pavement foundation. The recycling method provides an environmentally option as the existing road base materials will not be removed. This paper presents a case study of a trial section along the North-South Expressway in West Malaysia, where the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) was implemented to evaluate the compressive strength and in-situ stiffness of the cement stabilised road base material. The improvement in stiffness of the cement stabilised base layer was monitored, and samples were tested during the trial. FWD was found to be useful for the structural assessment of the cement-stabilised base layer prior to placement of asphalt layers. Results from the FWD were applied to verify the assumed design parameters for the pavement. Using the FWD, an empirical correlation between the deflection and the stiffness modulus of the pavement foundation is proposed.

        Much of our knowledge about the formation and evolution of high-redshift galaxies has come from studying the absorption signatures they impress on the spectra of background QSOs. The damped Lyman α (DLA) systems, in particular, have proved to be valuable probes of the metallicity and dust at redshifts z ~2-3 in what are the likely progenitors of galaxies like our own. At z ~ 2 we find that the typical metallicity of the universe was 1/15 solar. In addition, we find clear evidence for the existence of trace amounts of interstellar dust in DLA galaxies and show that this is consistent with recent high resolution spectra of DLAs with the Keck telescope, despite claims to the contrary.

        Korea has a systemic problem with lack of engine maintenance, especially among the Commercial Fishing Vessel fleet. This results in a inordinate percent of SAR call-outs for vessels with engine failure. These SAR call-outs lead to a free tow to shore by KCG or by one of its volunteer associates. Although these tows are not a terrible economic burden on KCG, it is a burden in terms of time and resources mis-allocated. This paper proposes a Commercial Fishing Vessel Examination (CFVE) program modeled after the program run by USCG. It is expected that adopting the CFVE program, KCG may be able to create a culture of safety among fishermen; thus, replicating the USCG’s success rates.

        The objective of this study was to evaluate bacteria removal ability of the metallic silver which was baked silver ion impregnated ceramic filter at heating condition. Silver leaking from baked ceramic filter was tested to sustain bacteria removal for a long time. Silver impregnated ceramic filter could remove E. coli completely at 1012 MPN/100ml to 1013 MPN/100ml of influent. However, ceramic filter without silver did not remove E. coli completely under the same condition. After baking, the silver impregnated ceramic filter almost didn’t leak out the silver ion from filter. Photo of TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) showed that absorbed silver ions remained in ceramic filter after baking process and most of silver were less than 10 nm. According to the increase in the amount of silver in the ceramic filter, removal efficiencies of E. coli were increased but turbidity removal was decreased. It can be accounted that increased removal efficiency of E. coli was from disinfection of silver that is in the ceramic filter. Simulated concentrations of bacteria agree well with the observed experimental effluent concentration data. Moreover, first-order decay coefficients increased to 0.0034/min after silver was added in the ceramic filter. Increase of first-order decay coefficient proves that silver-added ceramic filter can remove bacteria easily.

        The dual channel Pierce-Blitzstein photometer (PBPHOT) was productively used at the Flower and Cook Observatory to provide 60 years of study of binary systems and other cosmic objects. We review the history of this instrument, discuss its calibration, and recall some personal and professional interactions with Professor Robert H. Koch.
