본 연구는 국내 시사잡지가 인용(quotation)과 이미지를 뉴스보도에 어떻게 활 용하고 있는지를 내용분석방식을 이용해 살펴보았다. 아울러, 인용과 이미지가 기 사의 전체적인 방향과는 어떤 관계속에서 활용되고 있는지를 탐색하였다. 국내에 서 발행되는 주간 시사잡지 4개를 선정하여 분석한 결과, 기사당 평균 7.6개의 인용이 사용되었으며, 인용은 기사의 약 ⅓을 차지하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 인 용에 나타난 취재원의 유형은 공무원 정부기관이 가장 많았으며, 일반 개인, 정치 ·정당인, 기업인 등의 순서로 나타났다. 심층성을 강조하는 시사잡지임에도 불구 하고, 전문가의 인용은 상대적으로 많지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 취재원 3명 중 1 명(32%)은 익명취재원이었다. 국내 시사잡지들은 전반적으로 기사의 논조와 불일 치하는 인용보다 일치하는 인용을 더 많이 사용하는 것으로 파악되었다. 특히, 사 회적으로 논쟁을 불러일으킬 수 있는 이슈를 다루는 기사도 기사의 논조와 일치 하는 인용을 3배 가까이 많이 사용하였다. 따라서 인용의 사용에서 형식적인 불 균형이 발생하고 있었다. 실명 인용은 68.1%이었으며, 익명인용은 31.9%로 나타 났다. 하지만 부정적 기사에서는 실명 인용보다는 익명 인용의 비중이 높았다. 이 미지는 기사당 평균 3.05개가 사용되었으며, 사용된 이미지의 약 77%가 보도사 진이었다. 기사의 논조와 일치하는 이미지가 가장 많이 사용되었으며, 기사의 논 조와 불일치하는 이미지는 1%미만으로 거의 사용되지 않았다. 전체적으로 인용과 이미지의 불균형적 사용을 통한 불공정성이 시사잡지에서 나타난다고 볼 수 있다.

This study analyzed how weekly news magazines utilized quotation and a variety of images in their news reports. In addition, the study examined the interrelationships among quotation, images and the overall focus of news article. For the analysis, the four weekly news magazines were selected. The unit of analysis was a news article. Results show that an average of 7.6 quotations are inserted into a news article, and the quotations explain about 33% of a news articles in terms of length. Government and its officials are the most frequently quoted news source. The news magazines did not utilize much specialists as quotation sources for their investigative news reports. One of three quotation sources(32%) was anonymous. The news magazines utilize more focus-consistent quotations than focus-inconsistent ones in both social conflict news articles and normal news articles. Anonymous source explains 31.9%, but negative news articles utilize more anonymous source than attributed one. A total of 3.05 images is utilized in news articles, and 77% of the images are news photos. Focus-consistent images are 55%, and focus-inconsistent images are only 0.9%. The unbalanced utilization of quotation and images in weekly news magazines is discussed in the conjecture of overall unbalance of journalism.
