전자종이는 패널 내부에서 외부광원에 의존하여 이미지를 나타내는 반사형 디스플레이다. 본 연구는 전자종이의 이해를 돕기 위하여 전자종이들의 구동특성 및 원리에 대하여 간략히 소개하였으며, 전자종이의 가장 기본적인 조건인 외부광원에 의해 선명한 이미지를 볼 수 있는지를 나타내는 반사율, 대조비, 시야각 등의 광학적인 특성과 플렉서블 패널적용 가능여부 등을 바탕으로 제시된 전자종이들의 기술적 접근상태에 따른 시장성에 대하여 분석하였다.

Electronic paper is a reflection type display which is shown image by a outside source of light. We shortly introduced driving characteristics and principles of electronic papers to help understanding the electronic paper and analyzed marketability along to a technical approach by optical characteristics of contrast ratio, viewing angle and reflectivity which show to know image's resolution and possibility of flexible panel's application.
