이 논문은 중국에서의 한자 字源을 활용한 한자 교육 방법의 현황을 살펴보고, 이에 대한 평가를 통해 우리나라 한자 교육에의 응용 방안을 찾아보는 데에 목적을 둔다. 전통 시대의 漢字學연구에 있어서 字源의 개념은 ‘한자의 本源으로서, 새로운 한자를 파생해 낼 수 있는 獨體字’를 뜻하는 것으로 이해되었으며, 이는 許愼의 說文解字 와 鄭樵의 六書略 에서 제시한 ‘文’의 개념에 해당하는 것이었다. 그러나, 現代漢字學의 관점에서는 ‘한자의 가장 원시 형태에서 파악되는 造字의도 및 構成원리’로 자원의 개념이 재정립되었다. 중국에서는 자원을 활용한 한자 교육 방법이 교과서 및 각종 참고서적에서 다양하게 이용되고 있다. 현재 北京에서 사용되고 있는 小學 語文 교과서를 검토해 보면, 저학년 단계인 1～2학년 과정에서 주로 한자 교육이 이루어지고 있으며, 자원을 활용한 한자 학습은 대부분 造字원리가 분명하고 상형성이 뚜렷한 독체자를 대상으로 하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 漢語字源字典 , 漢字源流字典 , 學生萬能智力字典 등 한자의 자원 설명을 위주로 하는 참고서들이 출판되어 한자 학습에 도움을 주고 있다. 중국의 여러 가지 識字敎育방법론 중에서 자원을 활용하는 방법의 대표적인 것으로 ‘字理識字法’이 있다. 여기서 ‘字理’란 ‘한자의 構形규칙 및 造字원리’를 뜻하는 것이며, 자리식자법에서는 이러한 字理에 근거하여 한자 교육을 진행해야 할 것을 주장하고 있다. 이상 중국에서의 한자 교육 현황을 살펴볼 때, 자원을 활용한 방법은 매우 유용한 학습 방법임을 확인할 수 있다. 필자의 견해로는, 한자의 자원에 대한 정확한 해석에 바탕한 한자 교육을 진행하는 것이 중요하다고 생각한다. 하지만, 이로 인해 발생할 수 있는 난해성 및 비효율적 측면은 교사가 융통성 있게 해결하도록 해야 할 것이다. 또한 자원을 활용한 방법은 상형성이 뚜렷하면서 자원과 현재의 자형이 형태적 연관성을 가지는 한자를 학습하는 경우로 한정하는 것이 바람직하다고 생각한다.

This paper aims to look into the present situation of a Chinese character education method utilizing letter source(字源) in China, and find a device to apply the method to Chinese character education in Korea through its evaluation. In a study of Chinese character science in the traditional age, the concept of letter source(字源) was understood as ‘independent-style letter capable of generating a new Chinese character as original source of a Chinese character’. But, from the standpoint of modern Chinese character science, it was reestablished as ‘a principle of making a Chinese character understandable from the most primitive form of a Chinese character". In china, a Chinese character education method is being used in a textbook and various reference books, also Zilishizifa(字理識字法), a learning method based on Chinese character letter source, is proposed and being utilized. Given the present situation of a Chinese character education that utilized such Chinese letter source, it is found that this method is a very useful Chinese character learning method. In my opinion, Chinese character education based on exact interpretation of letter source of a Chinese character is a very important method. But, a teacher is required to flexibly solve inefficient aspects which may occur when emphasis was placed only on this education. Also, it would be desirable the method of utilizing letter source is limited to the case where a student learns a Chinese character with distinct hieroglyphic nature also.
