이 논문의 목적은 수업컨설팅에 관한 학문적․실제적 관심이 높아지고 있는 현 시점에서 수업컨설팅의 개념과 위상을 이론적 측면에서 검토하여, 그것의 이론적 완결성과 실천적 가치를 높이는 데에 있다. 연구 목적 달성을 위하여 수업컨설팅에서 지향하는 교사 및 수업의 상(像), 좋은 수업의 조건 등을 바탕으로 수업컨설팅의 개념을 재정리하였다. 그리고 수업과 관련된 주요 활동(수업분석, 수업비평, 수업장학)과 수업컨설팅을 비교하여 수업컨설팅의 속성을 보다 분명히 하였다. 비교의 기준으로는 해당 활동의 목적, 주요 관련자, 주요 산출물, 원리, 방법 및 기법, 활동 결과의 공유 여부, 참여의 강제성, 절차 등이 활용되었다. 수업컨설팅의 개념과 위상에 관한 논의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수업컨설팅은 “수업 관련 의뢰 과제를 해결하고 의뢰인의 수업을 개선하기 위하여, 전문성을 갖춘 교내외 전문가들이 교원을 중심으로 한 학교 구성원의 요청에 따라 제공하는 독립적인 자문 활동”이되, “학생의 참여와 배움을 핵심으로 하여, 수업의 기획, 의사소통, 상호작용 등을 기술적․예술적 요소로 나누어 분석․이해하고, 의뢰 과제를 해결하기 위한 과업을 학교컨설팅의 원리와 방법에 따라 수행”하는 활동으로 정의하였다. 둘째, 수업컨설팅과 여타 활동은 활동 목적, 주요 관련자의 특성 및 영향력, 활동 결과의 공유, 참여의 강제성, 모(母)개념의 성격 등에서 두드러진 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 논의는 교사의 수업 개선 및 전문성 개발 기제로서 수업컨설팅이 가지는 가능성을 재확인하는 바탕이 될 것이다.

This study aims to analyse the concept and status of instructional consulting. To this end, first of all, the concept of instructional consulting is redefined based on the figure of teacher, instructional practice and good teaching. Second, this paper compares instructional consulting with other instructional practices such as instructional analysis, class criticism, and instructional supervision. The criterions used for this purpose are purpose of activity, main actors, output, principles, method, share of the output and the like. The results suggest the followings: 1) The instructional consulting is defined independent advisory service provided to school members by specially trained and qualified persons assisting in an objective and independent manner to improve the client's instructional practice. The instructional consultants' job task is to analyzing the client's lesson plan, verbal and non-verbal communication, and interaction according to school consulting principles, and the core of the analysis is students' participation and learning. 2) There are significant differences among the characteristics of the four instructional practices. And this study finds instructional consulting's unique strength. The findings indicate that instructional consulting has the potential to improve the instructional practice and develope the expertise.
