Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) is one of the most economically serious veterinary pathogens due to its negative effects on livestock and its highly infectious nature via a variety of transmission paths through oral and inhalation routes. Accurate atmospheric dispersion models are useful tools for properly determining risk management plans, while inaccurate models may conversely lead to accidental loss in two possible ways. Atmospheric dispersion modeling, a scientific method which had never before been applied as a tool in a national FMD control program, was applied in this study to highlight its potential utility. In order to study the possibility of contagion from initial epidemic areas to remote places, a case of outbreak during April-June, 2010 were selected. Major environmental parameters for the survival of FMDV are temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH). Fine environments for live FMDV are approximately at T <24 C° and at RH >60%. Some are still alive but suffer at T between 24-30 C° and RH between 20-60%. It is difficult to judge the possibility of airborne transmission only from this results, but if it is confirmed as infected air through the additional research in the future, the government measures should be established for the problem.
