본 연구는 초등학생들이 교과서를 통한 간접적 경험과 텃밭을 통한 체험적인 학습활동을 연계하여 교육의 실효성을 거두기 위하여 실시되었다. 2011년 9월부터 2012년 2월까지 노원구 42곳의 초등학교와 송파구 37곳의 초등학교를 중심으로 초등학교 내 텃밭과 교과목과 연계된 텃밭 프로그램의 실태를 조사하였다. 현 초등학교 교과서에 나오는 식물의 종류를 파악하고 그 중 텃밭에서 재배할 수 있는 초본류 먹을거리 식물 위주로 자료조사를 하였다. 위성사진을 통한 학교 주변 환경조사를 하였으며, 서울시교육청과 북부교육지원청, 강동교육지원청의 사이트와 전화 상담, 현장 조사, 설문조사를 중심으로 연구를 진행하였다.연구결과 노원구와 송파구의 텃밭이 있는 초등학교는 50%를 넘었으나 이 중 초등교과목과 연계된 프로그램이 있는 학교는 7.6%에 불과했다. 교과와 연계한 텃밭 프로그램을 운영하는 단 6곳의 학교의 식물종을 조사한 결과 이 중 NC 초등학교는 교과서에 나오는 먹거리 식물 60여 가지를 재배하는 것으로 나타났고, TN 초등학교의 경우 40여 가지의 식물을 재배하고 있었으며 다른 초등학교의 식물종은 20종 미만이었다. 교과목과 연계된 프로그램의 운영결과를 묻는 설문을 통하여 학습과 정서, 지역커뮤니티 형성에서 긍정적이고 발전적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 지속성과 전문성, 통합적인 교과연계운영에 아쉬운 결과가 나타났으며 무엇보다도 교과목과 연계하는 적극적인 텃밭 활용에 부족함이 있었다. 따라서 이를 개선하기 위해 초등학교 텃밭의 확충과 전문 인력의 확보, 전문적인 프로그램의 개발이 시급한 실정이다.
This research aims at developing of an elementary school gardening programs as creative activity programs to help students understand nature and education related by elementary school educational curriculum. I surveyed elementary school gardens in Nowon-gu and Songpa-gu in Seoul from September-2011 to February-2012. Nowon-gu has a total of 42 elementary school and Songpa-gu has 37. This study was investigated the plants that were in the elementary school textbooks and also carried out a survey of the vegetation, mainly the food that grew in the elementary schools’ garden. As the method of study, after studying the environment around the elementary schools with the help of a satellite pictures, and this research was conducted telephonic interviews, a field survey and online surveys(at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Bukbu District Office of Education and Gangdong District Office of Education). It was found that above 50% of the elementary schools had gardens in both Nowon-gu and Songpa-gu. There were only six elementary schools that had a textbook and grew about 60 plant species. Other schools cultivated less than 20 plant species. Recent interviews with elementary school teachers indicated that gardening programs positively correlate with learning ability, emotions. In spite of the advantages, there are not enough school gardens and school gardening programs. For improving this, it is important to increase the number of school gardens and specialists, professional development programs are also urgently needed.
