본 연구는 원예치료 프로그램이 발달장애아동의 사회성과 정서적 행동에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보고자 대구광역시 D장애인 종합 복지관을 이용하고 있는 발달장애아동 7명을 대상으로 2010년 3월 23일부터 6월 8일까지 주 1회 총 12회 실시하였다. 사회성 평가 결과 원예치료 실시 전 21.71점에서 실시 후 24.85점으로 향상되어 P<0.01 수준에서 유의한 차를 나타내었다. 정서적 행동 평가 결과 하위항목 충동성과 사회화 점수가 각각 원예치료 실시 전․후 3.85점에서 2.00점, 4.66점에서 2.50점으로 낮아져 P<0.05 수준에서 유의하게 향상되었다. 정서적 행동 전체 점수는 원예치료 실시 전․후 15.57점에서 8.57점으로 P<0.05 수준에서 유의하게 향상되었다. 위와 같은 결과로부터 발달장애아동의 특성을 고려한 원예활동과 다양한 원예재료를 이용한 원예활동이 장애아동들을 수업에 적극적으로 참여를 할 수 있도록 하였으며 결과적으로 사회성과 정서에 매우 효과적으로 영향을 미쳤다고 판단된다.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of horticultural therapy on sociality and emotional behaviors of developmental disabled children. For achieving this research purpose, horticultural therapy was performed to 7 children with developmental disability who use D rehabilitation center in Daegu metropolitan city throughout total of 12 times per a week from March 23 to June 8, 2010. As the result, after horticultural therapy was applied, children's sociality significantly increased to 24.85 from 21.71(P<0.01). The analysis of their emotional behaviors concluded that grades of their impulse and sociality which are subordinate categories, decreased to respectively 2.00 and 2.50 from 3.85 and 4.66(P<0.05) after horticultural therapy and that means their impulse and sociality were also significantly improved. Lastly, total grades of emotional behaviors meaningfully improved at 8.57 from 15.57(P<0.05) after horticultural therapy. From these results, the horticultural activities with considering the characteristics of children with developmental disorders and with using a variety of gardening activities result in participating actively in class. Finally, horticultural activities are very effective in the sociality and emotion of developmental disabled children.
