본 연구에서는 Mattson의 원예치료 원모델에 대한 분석을 통하여 모델의 합당성을 고찰하고 여기에서 나타난 제한점을 보완하여 원예치료시 식물과 원예치료사에 대해 대상자가 나타낼 수 있는 반응을 9가지로 세분하고, 각 반응을 하나의 원 안에 표현한 가설적 모식도를 제시하였다. 또한 이 모식도가 원예치료의 현장에서 실제적인 도움이 될 수 있도록 대상자가 식물과 원예치료사에 대해 나타낼 수 있는 부정적, 긍정적, 무반응에 대해 고찰하였다. 이 모식도는 원예치료의 초점이 되는 대상자는 원의 내부에, 원예치료사와 식물은 원둘레 위에 위치시키고, 원예치료가 진행됨에 따라 나타나는 대상자의 식물과 치료사에 대한 반응을 대상자의 위치변화로 표현함으로써, 원예치료과정 중 일정 시점에서 대상자가 어느 위치에 있는가를 시각적으로 제시하여 원예치료의 진행사항을 파악하고 원예치료사가 프로그램의 수정 및 보완 방향을 결정하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

We develop a hypothetical graphic model based on the circle model from Mattson(1982), which shows that 1) the client is located inside a circle, while the plant and the therapists are on the circumference, expressing the client-centric symbolically, 2) the responses of the client regarding the plant and the therapist are expressed as a distance from the plant and the therapist, respectively, and 3) all nine possible responses of the client on the plant and the therapist can be marked on the respective nine areas inside a circle. Furthermore, we present the nine possible responses of the clients regarding the plant and the horticultural therapist in the horticultural therapy practice in detail. We hope this hypothetical graphic representation would serve as a map which locates client's position in the therapeutic process, so it would help the therapists assess the improvement of the clients and address the adaptation needed in the horticultural therapy practice.
