바그너에 관한 숱한 문헌은 서로 갈등하는 해석들로 가득 차 있다. 갖가지 상이한 해석 들은 다양한 정도로 바그너의 작품을 해명해준다. 그 논쟁의 소용돌이 가운데 이 글은 좀 더 기본적인 차원에서 바그너와 그의 음악에 적합하게 반응하는 법을 모색한다. 먼저 철학자에 게 필요 불가결한 존재로서 처음으로 바그너와 치열한 전면전을 벌인 니체로 거슬러 올라가 어떻게 해서 바그너는 ‘하나의 경우’가 되었는지 비판적으로 되짚어본다. 그로부터 오늘날까 지 바그너는 줄곧 철학과 음악의 관계 면에서 대단히 중요한 해석학적 초점이 되어 왔다. 바 그너를 둘러싼 논쟁의 이런 역사적 배경하에 아도르노의 바그너 비판과 평가를 점검한 다음, 때때로 엿보이는 그의 도식적 해석에 깃들어 있는 함정에 걸려들지 않고서 아도르노의 균열 과 모순이 어떻게 작품을 의미심장하게 만드는지 찾고자 한다. 여기서 음악과 철학의 쟁점에 대한 유익한 가르침을 담은 달하우스의 바그너 해석을 예시한다. 이로써 바그너 안에서 철학 과 음악의 얽히고설킴으로 말미암은 모순에 어떻게 반응할 수 있는지 보이고자 한다. 특히 아도르노의 바그너 해석의 문제와 시의성을 논함으로써 그 해법을 제시하고자 한다.

A large number of literatures on Richard Wagner abound with conflicting interpretations of his music. All kinds of these different interpretations elucidate Wagner to various degrees. Among a such vortex of polemic this article seeks to how to respond to Wagner and his music appropriately in a more basic level. To begin with we trace Nietzsche as an philosopher who was one of the first fiercely fought against Wagner so as to reflect critically on how Wagner had turned to be 'a case'. In the historical context of these arguments pro and contra Wagner it is followed by considering Adorno's critique and assessment of Wager and then searching for the way Adorno’s fractures and contradictions make Wagner’s musical work significantly without falling into a trap lodged in a schematic interpretation of the kind present occasionally in Adorno. At this moment Dahlhaus’s interpretations of Wagner that contain the instructive lessons about the issue of music and philosophy is exemplified. Thus we can see how the contradictions arising from the entanglement of philosophy and music in Wagner can be responded. In suggesting an solution this article ends with especially the actuality as well as the problem of Adorno’s interpretations of Wagner.
