본 연구는 제주도에서 사육되고 있는 한국 제주마의 혈통정보를 이용하여 근교계수 및 유효집단크기를 추정하여 제주마 집단의 구성 현황을 파악하고 향후 집단 유지 또는 개량하는데 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다. 제주특별자치도 축산진흥원의 제주마로 등록관리 되고 있는 2,486두의 혈통자료를 분석에 이용하였다. 세대별 평균 근교계수는 0.6~5.0%의 분포를 나타냈으며, 4세대 이후 세대가 증가할수록 근교계수는 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 평균세대간격은 9.22년으로 추정되었으며, 아비에서 아들 8.14년, 아비에서 딸 7.93년, 어미에서 아들 9.83년, 어미에서 딸은 10.66년으로 추정되었다. 출생년도에 따른 유효집단의 크기는 1.03두부터 128.23두까지로 추정되었으며 집단을 안정적으로 유지하기에는 어려움이 있을 것으로 사료된다. 따라서 제주마의 안정적인 집단의 유지를 위해서는 태어나는 모든 수말과 암말을 적절히 교배에 활용하여 제주마의 유전적 다양성을 확보하여야 할 것으로 판단된다.
This study was conducted to estimate average inbreeding coefficients and effective population size of Jeju horse population in Korea. The data used in this study was obtained from the Jeju Livestock Development Center. Total 2,486 heads of Jeju horse registration records were used for the analysis. Seven generations were found and the average coefficients of inbreeding per generation were ranged from 0.6 to 5.0%. The average rates of inbreeding per generation showed an increasing trend in after 4th generation. The average generation interval was 9.22 years. The generation intervals across four pathways were Lmm=8.14 years, Lmf=7.93 years, Lfm=9.83 years, Lff=10.66 years. The generation interval in sire-son pathways was slightly shorter than the dam-daughter pathways. The estimated effective population size was 1.03 heads in 1996, and 128.23 heads in 2002. Therefore, effective population size should be increased for conservation of Jeju horse in Korea.
