‘Dream Blue’는 절화용의 숙근 스타티스로 2009년에 전라북도농업기술원에서 종간 교잡을 통해 신품종으로 육 성되었다. 2003년 라티폴리아(모본)와 카스피아(부본)의 종 간 교잡을 통하여 당년 11월에 3,240개의 실생계통을 획 득하였고, 2004년 3월에 3,000실생계통을 육묘하여 특성 평가한 결과 절화 볼륨감이 우수하고 진보라 화색의 ‘Sta03-26’을 선발하였다. 2005년 조직배양묘를 번식하였 으며, 2006년부터 2007년까지 2년 동안 생육과 개화 특성 등 특성검정을 통해 ‘Dream Blue’를 육성하였다. ‘Dream Blue’는 개화습성이 사계성이며, 화형은 산방상 원추형이다. 화경의 분지각은 39정도이고, 잎의 색깔은 진 녹색(RHS G139A)이다. 화경 당 탁엽수는 5.4개 있으 며, 엽장과 엽병장은 짧고, 엽장에 대한 엽병장의 길 이도 짧다. 화색은 진한 보라색(RHS PVN82B) 을 띠 고 있으며, 소화 크기는 작지만 소화수는 ‘Ocean Blue’ 보다 3.7배 많다. 꽃잎수는 5개이며, 암술과 수술은 각 각 5개이다. 꽃대는 진녹색(RHS G125A) 이고, 하단부 에는 고유의 갈색 반점이 있다. 준고냉지 하계 재배에서 개화시기는 ‘Ocean Blue’보다 15일 늦고, 절화중은 화경 당 248g으로 3.7배 무겁다. 2009년 2월 국립 종자원에 품종 등록되었다.
Limonium spp. ‘Dream Blue’ was selected by interspecific crossing of L. latifolium O. Kuntze (maternal parent) and L. bellidiforium Dumout (paternal parent) at the Jeollabuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services in 2009. Growth and flowering characteristics were investigated from 2006 to 2007. Its major characteristics were the four-season flowering and corymb panicle inflorescence. An angle of branching was 39 degrees. Leaf color was dark green and stipule was 5.4 sheets per flower stalk. Leaf length and leaf width of ‘Dream Blue’ were shorter compared to ‘Ocean Blue’ used as the control. Floret color was dark purple (RHS PVN82B). Floret size was smaller and floret numbers were 3.7 times greater than those of ‘Ocean Blue’. The number of petal, pistil and stamen in floret was 5 ea, respectively. Flower stalk color was dark green with brown spot. Blooming of ‘Dream Blue’ was 15 days late than that of ‘Ocean Blue’. ‘Dream Blue’ produced cut flower with a good quality as fresh weight of 248 g per flower stalk. ‘Dream Blue’ was registered to Korea Seed and Variety Services (KSVS) for new plant protection rights in 2009.
