국화 ‘수미’는 경남농업기술원 화훼연구소에서 2009년에 육성한 스탠다드 국화 신품종으로 2006년도에 백색겹꽃의 겹봉오리 발생이 적은 스탠다드 국화 ‘마꼬또’ 품종을 모본, 성장세가 좋은 국내 주재배 품종인 백색 겹꽃 스탠다드 국화 ‘신마’ 품종을 부본으로 교배하여 육성하였다. 2007년 실생집단으로부터 개화가 균일하고 볼륨감이 우수한 개체를 선발하여 ‘MASIN-7’로 계통명을부여하였고, 2007년부터 2009년까지 3년간에 걸쳐 추계억제재배와 하계 촉성재배를 포함하는 특성검정을 통해최종적으로 ‘수미’를 육성하였다. ‘수미’ 품종의 자연개화기는 10월 하순이며, 백색 꽃잎을 가진 겹꽃으로 추국이다. 추계 억제재배에 있어서 초장은 70.6cm, 화경은13.0cm, 본당 곁봉오리수는 8.4개이고, 설상화수는 293.3개였다. 하계 촉성재배에서 화경은 11.9cm, 본당 곁봉오리수는 9.3개이고, 설상화수는 312.4개였다. 하계 촉성재배에서의 암기처리 후 개화소요일수가 60일이고 추계 억제재배에서는 57일이었다. 수미 는 재배온도가 20oC에서,암기처리시간은 13시간에서 개화소요일수가 47일로 개화가 가장 빨랐다. ‘수미’ 품종은 2011년 국립종자원에 품종보호권등록(품종보호 제3758)되었다.

A new standard chrysanthemum cultivar ‘Sumi’was developed by the Flower Research Institute,Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services in2009. A breeding program was initiated in 2006 with thepurpose of developing prominent chrysanthemum cultivarwith better flower quality. In order to obtain the hybrid variety,cross between two double white standard types ofchrysanthemum cultivars, ‘Makoto’ and ‘Jinba’, was made.Among the progenies, the line ‘MASIN-7’ was selected in2007 due to its uniform flowering and good flower volume.After conducting growth characteristic evaluation from 2007-2009 that included shading cultivation in summer andretarding cultivation in autumn, the selected line was finallynamed as ‘Sumi’. The natural flowering time of new cultivar‘Sumi’ was late October. It produced double type flowers withwhite petals, and number of lateral buds produced per stemduring autumn cultivation was 8.4, which was less comparedto ‘Jinba’ (15.2 lateral buds). In autumn season, the plantheight was about 70.6cm, plant weight was 82.9g, flowerdiameter was 13.0cm, and number of days to floweringunder the dark period treatment was about 57. In summerseason, the number of lateral buds per stem was 9.3, plantheight was 82.3cm, plant weight was 77.9g, flower diameterwas 11.9cm and number of days to flowering under the darkperiod treatment was about 60. The stems and leaves of‘Sumi’ are vigorous, petal color is stable even under summerheat, and it displays earliest blooming, requiring 47 days toflowering under growing temperature of 20oC and dark periodtreatment of 13 hours. ‘Sumi’ (Grant No. 3758) was registered at the Korea Seed and Variety Service (KSVS) fornew variety protection rights in 2011.
