본 연구는 미래사회의 중요한 인재가 될 학생들에게 참여, 협의, 실천이 가능한 학습 경험을 제공하여 현명하고 책임 있는 민주시민으로의 꿈을 가꾸고 성장함에 목적을 두고 진행하게 되었다. 초등학교 4학년 학생을 대상으로 실험집단과 통제집단을 두어 ‘PCP 협동학습프로그램’을 구안하고 적용하였다. ‘PCP 협동 학습프로그램’은 학생들이 배려와 나눔의 경험을 제공해 줄 수 있는 협동학습을 기반으로 학급과 학교에 서 일어나는 문제에 참여(Participation)·협의(Conference)·실천(Practice)을 직접 경험함으로써 민주시민 의식을 함양할 수 있도록 계획되었다. 그 결과 ‘PCP 협동학습프로그램’은 인간의 존엄성, 기본질서, 민주 사회의 절차, 합리적 의사결정 등의 민주시민의식 함양에 모두 유의한 효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다.

This experiment proceed with the purpose of giving an educational experience of participation, conference, and practice in order to stimulate growth and dreams as an intelligent as well as responsible democratic citizen to students who will be an important asset to the future society. We conceived and applied the ‘PCP Cooperative Learning Program’to 4th grade elementary students with a experiment and control group.
‘PCP Cooperative Learning Program’was devised so that students could cultivate awareness as a democratic citizen by personally experiencing participation·conference·practice to problems caused in the class and school based on cooperative learning that can provide an experience of consideration and sharing.
As a result, ‘PCP Cooperative Learning Program’was certified of having significant effects on the cultivation of awareness as a democratic citizen such as human dignity, discipline, and logical reasoning.
