프리지아 ‘Mauve Topaz’는 2006년 농촌진흥청 국립원예특 작과학원에서 보라색 홑꽃 ‘Avila’ 품종과 보라색 겹꽃 ‘Blue Bayou’ 품종을 교배하여 획득한 종자로부터 2007년 연보라색 다화성 홑꽃 프리지아 계통을 선발하였다. 2007년부터 2011년까지 개화 생육특성검정 및 육성계통평가회의 기호도 평가 를 통해 선발되어 2012년 직무육성품종심의회를 통해 ‘Mauve Topaz’로 명명하였으며 2014년 품종보호등록 되었다. ‘Mauve Topaz’는 RHS color chart V85A 연보라색 홑꽃 프리지아 품 종으로 초장이 109.7cm로 대조품종 ‘Avila’, 103.7cm 및 ‘Blue Bayou’ 76.0cm에 비해 길고, 구근부패병에 강한 특징이 있다. 프리지아 ‘Mauve Topaz’는 개화소요일수는 136일로 대비품종 보다 약 2 ~ 25일 정도 빠르며 소화수 및 소화장은 각각 13.0 개, 9.3cm이며 화폭은 6.2mm, 분지수 및 자구번식력은 4.3 개, 4.1배이다.

Freesia hybrida ‘Mauve Topaz’ was derived from a crossing between ‘Avila’ and ‘Blue Bayou’, purple single petals and purple double petals. F lowering characteristics of the freesia seedlings were tested from 2007 to 2011 for 4 years and finally selected and named ‘Mauve Topaz’ in 2012. A new freesia ‘Mauve Topaz’ is now registered breeder’s right, in Korea Seed and Variety Service, in November, 2014. A Freesia ‘Mauve Topaz’ has single and middle petals with light purple (RHS V85A). The average plant height of cv. ‘Mauve Topaz’ was 109.7 cm, which was higher than the control cultivars ‘Avila’ 103.7 cm and ‘Blue Bayou’ 76 cm. Freesia ‘Mauve Topaz’ showed resistant to Fusarium oxysporum after inoculation of the F. oxysporum, treated bulbs incubated at 26℃for 72 hr in the growth chamber. The rate of symptom of the ‘Mauve Topaz’ bulb was 2.6%, which was even smaller than the control cultivars ‘Avila’ 10.7% and ‘Blue Bayou’ 47.0%. The average days to flowering of ‘Mauve Topaz’ were 136 days, which were approximately 2 - 25 days earlier than the control cultivar ‘Avila’ and ‘Blue Bayou’. The number of florets per stalk of cv. ‘Mauve Topaz’ was 13 comparing to control cultivars, 13.7 and 11.0, and stalk length was 9.3 cm comparing to the control cultivars 9.7 cm respectively and the average flower width was 62.7 mm in compare to control cultivars, 67.7 and 63.7 mm, respectively. The average yield was 4.3 cut stem in compare to control cultivars, 4.3 and 5.7. The average corm yield was 4.3 in compare to control cultivars, 4.5 and 2.6 cormlets per plant.
