과거 지식 중심 교육과정에서는 많이 아는 것이 중요하였다면, 역량 중심 교육과정에서는 무엇을 할 수 있느냐가 중요하다. 각국의 역량중심 교육과정에서 나타나는 공통점은 개인적으로는 창의적 사고력, 문제해결력 등을 강조하고, 사회적으로는 협동, 배려 등을 강조하고 있는 것이다. 핵심역량 은 역량 가운데 학교교육을 통해 누구나가 길러야 할 기본적이고 보편적이며 중요한 성격의 것이다. 역량중심 교육과정에서 교사는 역량을 중심으로 학습목표를 진술하여야 하고, 교수･학습 방법 또한 이러한 역량을 신장시키는 융합 수업, 프로젝트 수업 등을 적극 활용하여야 하며, 평가의 방법 역시 과정 중심의 수행평가를 통해 학생들이 자신의 지식을 통해 어떻게 역량을 길러내는지에 초점을 두어야 할 것이다. 2015 개정 교육과정은 미래 사회가 요구하는 핵심역량을 함양하여 창의융합형 인재를 양성하는 데에 중점을 둔다. 2015 개정 한문과 교육과정에서는 의사소통 능력, 정보처리 능 력, 창의적 사고 능력, 인성 역량, 심미적 감성을 한문과 핵심역량으로 설정하였다. ‘한자와 어휘’ 자료를 통한 문자도 그리기 수업, 한자 자르기/만들기 수업, 이름 한자로 이야기 만들기 수업, 동음 이의어로 짧은 글 짓기 수업, 상형문자카드로 문장 만들기 수업 등은 한문과 핵심역량을 함양할 수 있을 것이다. 다른 교과와의 융합 수업 모델이 적극적으로 개발되어야 하며, 한문과 역량을 측정할 수 있는 도구 개발이 필요하다.

In the past knowledge-based curriculum, it was important to know a lot, but in the competency-based curriculum, what we are capable of is important. The common ground of the curriculum from all over the world is that they underline both individually creative thinking and problem-solving ability and socially cooperation and consideration, etc. Core competency is of fundamental, universal, important thing for anyone to be cultivated through school education in other competencies. In the competency-based curriculum, teachers have to state learning objectives based on competency and also teaching-learning method actively utilizes convergence and project classes, etc. to improve the competency. In addition, the evaluation method should be focused on how students develop competencies with their knowledge through process-based performance assessment. The curriculum revised in 2015 focuses on training creative and convergent type of person by building the core competency demanded in the future. The curriculum of Chinese characters subject revised in 2015 set up communication ability, information processing ability, creative thinking ability, personality competency, and esthetic sensibility as its core competencies. The core competencies of Chinese characters subject will be able to be cultivated through the classes such as the class drawing the combined picture of character and drawing through ‘Chinese characters and vocabulary’ materials, the class making/cutting Chinese characters, the class making stories with Chinese characters of name, the class writing a short essay using homonym, and the class making sentences with pictographic cards, etc. The model of convergence class with other subjects should be actively developed and the development of tool to measure competencies of Chinese characters subject is needed.
