본 연구는 의미가 퇴색된“마루”의 개념을 사전적 정의, 선행연구검토, 심층면담 등을 통해 정리 ‧ 제시함으로써 한국 전통춤 형식연구를 위한 일차적 자료를 제공하는 것에 목적과 의의가 있다. 요지를 밝히면 세 가지이다. 첫째,“마루”는 한국인의 삶 속에서 근원, 기준, 꼭대기, 널빤 지로 바닥을 깔아 놓은 곳 등을 지칭하는 용어로 통용된다. 둘째, 한국 전통춤에서 “마루”는 춤 구성의 기본 단위로, 축소 ․ 생략 ․ 확대되는 유동성을 갖는다.“마루”의 유동성은 표현과 의 미를 구현시키는 전통적 방식을 보여주는 것이다. 셋째,“마루”를 중심으로 할 때, 한국 전통춤 형식은“마루>어휘적 춤사위>기법에 주안점을 둔 춤사위”등으로 서열화할 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to identify and propose the concept of“Maru”, traditional Korean dance researching dictionary definition, previous studies and in-depth interview. This study can be used as the material to grasp the structure of traditional Korean dance. Conclusions are as follows: First, the linguistic definitions of“Maru” are encapsulated as root, standard and floor. Second,“Maru” is a basic unit of traditional Korean dance and music composition led by the principle of“Maetko-pum”. The forms of“Maru” are changed by traditional Korean dancer. The mobility of“Maru” is traditional mode to make expression and meaning. Third, the form of traditional Korean dance can be systematized as“Maru> lexical Chumsawi> technical Chumsawi”.
