본 연구의 목적은 대전·충남 지역의 대표적인 무용가 이미라의 예술 활동을 종합적으로 연 구하는 데 있다. 연구의 방법으로는 인터뷰에 근거한 구술 조사와 책, 연구 논문, 신문 기사, 전 문 사전, 팸플릿 등 각종 참고 자료에 근거한 문헌학적 연구를 함께 사용하였다. 이미라는 자신 의 전공인 무용 분야에서 주로 역사적 위인을 소재한 삼은 무용극을 창작하여 공연하였다. 이러 한 무용극은 교훈적 요소의 용이한 전달, 빠른 내용 이해, 내용의 풍부한 구성, 흥미 요소의 가 미 등이 장점이다. 대표작으로 평가되는 <성웅 이순신>을 비롯한 여러 작품에서는 충효 사상이 주제로 부각되었다. 그녀의 무용극은 서사성이 강하고 연극적 요소가 두드러지는 특징을 지니고 있다. 이미라는 충청남도의 민속 예술을 재창조하는 데도 관심을 기울였는데, 그 작업은 원형의 발 굴과 예술성의 제고과정을 통해 이루어졌다. <은산 별신제>, <거북놀이>, <아산 줄다리기>, <횃 불쌈 놀이>, <등바루 놀이>, <산유화가> 등이 그녀가 재창조 작업에 참여한 충청남도 지역의 민 속 예술이다. 이 작품들은 대부분 전국민속예술경연대회에서 상을 수상하였고, 일부는 국가와 지역의 무형문화재로 지정되었다. 그녀는 다음 세대에 우리 민족의 얼을 심어 주기 위한 교육 무용 활동도 활발하게 전개하였 다. 청소년을 대상으로 하는 교육 무용극 경연 대회와 강습회가 그 대표적 활동이다. 한편 이미 라는 예술 행정가로서도 탁월한 능력을 발휘하였다.

This paper provides a comprehensive study on the works and career of an artist Lee Mi-Ra who is one of the most recognized dancers in Daejeon metropolitan city and Southern Chungcheong province. The research reviewed various oral records and books of her interviews, research papers, newspaper articles, dance encyclopedia, pamphlets and other references and literatures. Lee, for more than four decades, used her expertise in dance to introduce historical figures through performances and theatres. The advantages of Lee’s dance theatres lie in their reflected moral lessons, fast plot delivery, rich composition, and added interesting factors. Her dance theatres are characterized for their narratives and theatric factors. The subject of Lee’s masterpieces, including Admiral Yi Sun-sin, emphasized on historical figures and their loyalty and filial duty. In addition to dance performances, Lee was interested in recreating the folk arts of Southern Chungcheong province. She engaged in this work with careful discovery of each art piece’s originality and reconstruction of its artistic values. Eunsan Byeolsinje(Eunsan ritual for tutelary god), Geobuk Nori(Turtle game), Asan Jooldarigi(Asan Tug-of-war), Hoetbulssam Nori(Torch game), Deungbaru Nori(Lamp lighting game) and Sanyuhwaga(Mountain flower song) are some of the folk arts that she recreated. Most of these works were awarded at National Folk Art Competition, and some were designated as intangible cultural assets. In the mean-time, she became famous in due to her distinguished artistic discernment and administrative ability. Lee was also active in engaging in educational dance works which would foster the love and spirit of the country(eol) in the hearts of the next generation. Most notable work amongst them is the Educational Dance Theatre Competition and related courses for youth in Daejeon metropolitan city and southern Chungcheong province, which she continued for more than ten years.
