1948년 미군에 의한 독도폭격사건은 많은 인명과 재산손실을 초래한 사건으로 전 국민의 슬픔과 공분을 자아낸 사건이었다. 이 사건은 아직까지 그 진상이 명백히 규명되지 않은 부분이 많을 뿐 아니라 피해자들에 대한 보상도 제대로 이루어지지 않았다. 현재까지 1948년 독도폭격사건의 진실을 밝히기 위한 중요한 연구 성과들이 있었다. 특히 최근의 몇몇 연구는 이 사건의 배경이나 원인을 일본과의 관계 속에서 밝히려 시도하였다. 이러한 시도는 1948년 독도폭격사건의 진상을 규명하는데 중요한 기여를 한 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 지금까지 1952년 2차 독도폭격사건이 발생한 배경에 대한 의혹은 상당히 밝혀졌지만, 1948년 1차 독도폭격사건의 발생 배경에 대한 의혹은 아직까지 충분히 규명되지 못했다. 이 연구는 기존의 독도폭격사건 관련 연구의 연장선상에서 1948년 독도폭격사건의 경과를 재구성해보고, 1948년 독도폭격사건이 발생한 배경에 대한 의혹을 밝혀보고자 한다. 1차·2차 독도폭격은 울릉도·독도를 생업터전으로 삼고 있는 어민들에게 엄청난 상처와 고통을 안겨준 사건이었다. 특히 1948년 1차 폭격사건은 많은 사상자가 발생하였기에 범국민적 아픔과 공분을 일으킨 사건이었다. 그렇지만 이 사건은 우리정부와 국민이 독도영유권 수호에 대한 의지를 더욱더 확고히 하는 계기가 되었다.

Dokdo Bombing Accent in 1948 by U.S Air force resulted many Korean victims and damage of assets raising Korean's deep grief and public anger. This Accident was not revealed the reality until now but also miss the compensation for the victims. There were some achievements of study on 1948 Dokdo Bombing Accident until now. Especially recent few studies tried to uncover the cause and background of the accident in the relationship with Japan. This kind of effort might be evaluated as important contribution to reveal the truth of Dokdo Bombing Accident in 1948. Although many parts of suspicious issues of the truth about the background of The Second Bombing Accident in 1952 was studied but The First Dokdo Bombing Accident in 1948 was not fully uncovered the questions and background. This study focused on the Dokdo Bombing Accident in 1948 to reconstruct the suspicion and the background of the progress on the same expansion of the existing study result. The First and The Second Dokdo Bombing Accident seriously damaged the living of residents who have lived and involved in the fishery around Ulleungdo and Dokdo resulting agony for the fishers. Especially, the First bombing event in 1948 resulted many death, which impacted Korean's serious agony and grief. However, this Accident also strengthen the will of protecting Dokdo Territory for Koreans and Korean government.
