Using a foreign language for communication and building interpersonal relationships can be improved through practice with other people in educational spots. In such educational spots, teachers sometimes ask learners to talk about their personal situations when practicing speaking for an effective training. Some learners in Chinese language education courses feel uncomfortable exposing their personal information or situations that are needed for self-introduction. However, in educational spots, the aspect of practicing for real application is stressed and the problem of exposing personal information is often neglected. In regard to this, this study compares and analyses the status of personal information exposure seen in Chinese language textbooks that are used in South Korea, the U.S, Japan and Germany, and discusses issues to be considered and applied in educational spots. Regarding this, this study conducted a survey to collect learners’ opinion on private information exposure. Based on the analysis, this study suggests how teachers should handle content related to personal information in Chinese language educational spots. When learning interpersonal relationship expressions related to self-introduction in educational spots, learners should practice or train by utilizing objective information rather than talking about their personal situations or personal information. For practice, learners can be asked to answer questions regarding a dialogue or a text in the textbook or can be led to speak or answer questions regarding objective materials presented to them. In terms of the development of teaching materials or aids, practice cases that ask learners to substitute given expressions with their own expressions revealing their personal information can have a negative effect on the learning atmosphere. Consequently, like highschool textbooks of different countries, it is desirable for teaching materials to give a direction so that learners can have enough practice using objective information of the third party presented to them.
