본 연구에서는 국가대표를 포함한 372명의 선수를 대상으로 훈련과 시합에서 심리요인의 중요도, 심리적 문제의 경험 실태와 해결 방법, 심리요인의 경기력 공헌도와 조절 능력, 심리훈련에 관한 요구와 희망 등 스포츠심리학의 선수 지원과 관련된 여러 주제를 분석하였다. 이들 주제를 묻는 질문지에 대한 양적, 질적 자료를 분석한 결과 우리 선수들은 심리훈련으로 대표되는 스포츠심리학의 역할을 매우 긍정적으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 선수들은 훈련과 시합에서 심리요인이 매우 중요한 역할을 한다고 믿고 있었지만 심리훈련에 관한 교육 기회나 투자하는 시간은 극히 낮았다. 자신감과 집중력은 시합에서 공험도에 비해 조절 능력이 크게 떨어지는 심리요인으로 밝혀졌다. 선수들은 심리훈련 참여에 적극적인 태도를 보였고 체계적인 훈련을 원하는 선수도 많았다. 이들은 심리상담과 훈련의 경로, 심리훈련의 효과에 대해서 보다 많은 정보를 얻기를 희망하였다. 이러한 결과는 앞으로 심리훈련 내용의 개발, 심리훈련의 설계 등 스포츠심리학의 현장 지원 노력의 지침으로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study examined perceived importance of major psychological skills, nature of psychological problems in practice and competition, need for mental skills training among 372 Korean elite athletes. The athletes completed a questionnaire that assessed their perceptions of psychological skills, psychological problems, and mental skills training. I general, they were extremely supportive of psychological skills in enhancing sporting success. The athletes had limited experiences in learning mental skills training and spent minimal portion of their training time in applying psychological skills during practice. Confidence and concentration were the psychological attributes judged to be the most important in determining in success and failure. The athletes reported positive attitude toward sport psychology indicating that they would be interested in receiving mental skills training from sport psychologists. Concerns regarding mental skills training included lack of access to qualified sport psychologists. These findings would help design and implement culture-sensitive psychological skills training for Korean athletes.
