본 연구는 성인 여가스포츠 참여자를 대상으로 성별과 연령 그리고 스포츠 경험 수준에 따른 신체적 자기-개념 프로파일을 분석하였다. 연구의 대상자는 총 20개 종목의 여가스포츠 참가자 1177명(남=568명; 여=609명)이었으며, 이들의 신체적 자기개념 수준은 10개의 하위요인으로 구성된 한국형 신체적 자기개념 검사지에 의하여 측정되었다. 신체적 자기-개념의 하위요인들 종속변인으로 시행된 다변량 분산분석(성별 x 연령 x 경험) 결과는 성별, 연령, 경험의 주효과와 성별과 연령의 상호작용 효과에서 유의성을 나타내었다. 20대와 40대 그리고 50대의 남성들이 체지방과 건강의 개념을 높게 지각하고 있었으며, 20대와 30대 남성이 여성들보다 신체활동에 긍정적으로 지각하고 있었다. 나아가, 오랫동안 여가스포츠에 참여한 집단들이 단기간의 참여집단보다 스포츠 유능감, 신체활동, 지구력, 신체전반에 대한 자기-지각수준이 높았으며, 낮은 체지방 수준을 느끼고 있었다. 이러한 결과들은 신체적 자기-개념의 이론과 선행연구를 바탕으로 논의되었다.

This study examined physical self-concept profile of Korean adults who participated in various leisure sports, as functions of sex, age, and exercise duration. A total of 1,177 participants (male=568; female; 609) age-ranged from 20s to 50s completed the Korean version of the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire. The results of a MANOVA indicated that there were significant sex, age, duration main effects and a significant sex x age interaction effect. As compared with females, male participants in age 20s, 40s, and 50s perceived higher body fat, better health. Male participants in 20s and 30s were more likely to perceive strong physical activity. However, sex difference in perception of physical activity significantly declined as age increased (40s and 50s). As compared with short-term participants, long-term participants in leisure sports reported that they feel strong sport competence, physical activity, flexibility, endurance, strength, and general physical concept. They also perceived as having lower body fat. These results were discussed with theoretical, conceptual, and methodological perspectives of physical self-concept, and future study was suggested.
