본 연구의 목적은 한국의 초등 도덕교과서 표지 일러스트레이션에 대한 현황을 파악하고 향후 개선점을 찾기 위하여 2018 년부터 도입된 한국과 일본의 초등 도덕교과서 표지 일러스트레이션의 시각적 서사를 비교분석하였다. 연구방법은 사회기 호학의 관점에서 이미지를 구성하는 시각 요소들의 관계성에 대하여 분석한 Kress와 van Leeween의 시각 문법을 바탕으 로 하였다. 한국과 일본의 3·4학년 초등 도덕교과서 표지 일러스트레이션의 분석 결과, 한국의 도덕교과서 표지 일러스트레 이션은 일본과 비교하여 시각적 서사의 구조가 미흡하다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 향후 교과서 표지 일러스트레이션의 시각적 서사 구조에 대한 개선점을 제시하고자 한다.

In today 's Korean society, moral education is becoming more important in an environment where serious social problems arise in youth. As the curriculum was revised in 2015, the moral textbook was newly edited, and the role of textbook design is also attracting attention. The textbook cover has a medium like the face of the subject, but it also influences students unconsciously as a visual culture that students come into contact with on a daily basis. Although the textbook cover illustration is an important area where the learner 's sympathy is performed, it has not been sufficiently studied in comparison with its functional role and importance. Based on the social semiotic viewpoint, this study compares the visual narrative of the cover paintings of Japanese elementary moral textbooks published in the social background similar to the illustration of the Korean elementary moral textbooks revised in 2015. Through this, I tried to understand the present state of the cover illustration of elementary moral textbooks in Korea and to find improvement points in the future.
