사주명리는 오랫동안 한국인의 기층사상 체계를 이루며 지금까지 한국인의 삶 속에 면면히 작용해오고 있다. 하지만 사주명리에 관해 학술적 연구가 진행되기 시작한 건 불과 최근의 일이다. 2016년 6월 현재 학술연구정보서비스(RISS)에 등록된 사주명리 관련 학술논문과 학위논문들을 사주명리의 연원과 전개, 철학적 조망, 구성원리, 활용양상, 인식체계 등으로 분류하여 그간의 연구 성과와 향후 과제에 대해 고찰하였다.
음양오행론과 간지론, 명리학 문헌에 관한 연구는 활발하게 진행되었다. 그러나 특정분야로 지나치게 편중된 경우도 있는데 중화사상, 심리⋅적성, 질병 등이 바로 그러하다. 그러므로 앞으로는 사주명리에 관한 연구주제를 보다 다양하게 하여 연구를 진행하는 것이 중요하다. 많은 통계 논문들이 양산되고 있는 사주명리의 해석체계의 경우는 조사 결과의 왜곡을 막을 수 있도록 통계 분석이 심층적으로 이뤄져야 한다.
확정성이 아니라 하나의 사주에 담긴 가능성을 분석하여 그 사람의 잠재성을 긍정적으로 확대할 수 있는 탐색과정으로서의 사주명리로 사회적 인식이 전환되어야 한다. 그래서 일방적으로 맞추기에 급급한 점(占)이 아니라 내담자와 소통하는 인생 상담학이 되어야 한다. 학회⋅학술지⋅정규학교⋅학생⋅선생⋅교재 등 사주명리의 학술적 정립을 위한 인프라들도 점차 갖춰 나가야 하며 인접학문과의 학제간 연구도 중요하다.

The four pillars of destiny science has been the framework of Korean fundamental thoughts for a long time and has continually exercised in Korean life. However it was only recent days when the academic research about the four pillars of destiny science was begun. This study classified the four pillars of destiny science-relevant treatises and theses being registered in the RISS(Research Information Sharing Service) into the categories of its origin and development, the philosophical perspective about it, its composition principles, its utilization aspect, and its awareness system, and contemplated the research achievements and future tasks.
The researches about the literatures dealing the Yin-Yang & Five Elements theory, the 12-year cycle theory of the Chinese Zodiac(干支論), and the Destiny theory have been actively carried out. However, some cases being excessively biased to a certain theme, and Sinocentrism, psychology, attribute, and disease were become such examples. Therefore from now on, it is important to research more various research themes about the four pillars of destiny science. For the field of integration system about the four pillars of destiny contents which generates a lot of statistical treatises and theses, the statistical analysis should be done in depth in order to prevent any potential to distort the results of a research.
Besides, the social perception about the four pillars of destiny science should be changed to see the science as the exploring process to positively extend one's potential through the analysis on his possibilities being contained in his fate, not to see a fixed fate. So the process identifying four pillars of his destiny should become a life-counselling process that its interpreter communicates with his/her client, not the fortune telling activity which the interpreter is busy only in finding the client's events in past and present and predicting his/her future. And there should be gradually occupied the infrastructure for the academic establishment of the four pillars of destiny science for the academic circle, the academic journal, formal school and students and teachers as well as textbooks, and it is important to carry out interdisciplinary researches with relevant studies.
