이 글의 목적은 조선 중기 부휴 선수(1543-1615)의 법맥 및 사상의 특징과 이것이 그의 시 세계 어떻게 투영, 변용되고 있는지를 살펴보 는 데 있다. 청허 휴정과 함께 한국불교의 근간이 되고 있는 조사선 의 전통을 계승하고 있는 부휴 선수는 탁월한 시적 재능과 선적 상 상력으로 격조 높은 수많은 시를 남겼다. 그 대표적인 결과물이 성성 적적(惺惺寂寂)한 수행과 깨달음의 선심(禪心)을 노래한 『부휴당대 사집』이다. 여기에는 구도의 여정과 깨달음의 시, 조사선에 충실한 격외와 시법의 시, 유불회통의 교유의 시, 자연교감을 통한 세외지심 의 시, 애국애민의 시 등 빼어난 시문학 작품들이 실려 있다. 무엇보 다도 그의 선심을 시적으로 형상화 하는 데 있어서 중심적인 사유는 모든 대상과 현상, 사량 분별을 초월하여 일체화 하는 것이다. 결국 그의 이러한 선적 사유의 시적 형상화는 고도의 상징과 은유, 그리고 역설적인 반상(反常)을 기반 한 시적 상상력의 조화로운 결과물이라 할 수 있다.

The purpose of this paper is to trace the Seon thought of Seon master Buhyu Seonsu(1543-1615) and its being projected into and expressed in his poetic world, based on BuhyudangDaesajip(the collection of Buhyu's poems), which expressed koan teaching and the luminous transparency of the void and serenity. Succeeding to the dharma-linage of BuyongYeonggwan, BuhyuSeonsu led the Buddhist community together with CheongheoHyujeong in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty. Also, BuhyuSeonsu produced so many gem-like poetry based on his outstanding poetic talent and Seonistic imagination. Its chief product is BuhyudangDaesajip, which contains his ascetic practice and Seon-mind of enlightenment. The focal point of BuyuSeonsu's poetic expression is to stress that Mind(心)is the basis of all things, and also to seek after buddha-nature grounded on Samadha-vipassana everything as it is with No-mind(無心). He expressed the nature of mind in more brief and vivid poetic diction. Therefore, his Seonistic thought and poetic imagination is lyrically well depicted through interacting with nature. On other hand, BuhyuSeonsu's Seon poetry was produced in the course of ascetic life from the perspective of attaining enlightenment and also, the harmony between Confucianism and Buddhism, Gyeokwoiseon(Meditation outside words and formulary), and patriotic affiliation and compassion for sentient beings. In brief, his poetry is the very 'poetic formation' of his 'Seon-mind.'
