소재기술, 표면처리기술 등의 발전에 따라 제품 및 공공시설물의 CMF(색채, 재질, 마감) 수준은 지속적인 발전을 거듭해 왔다. 특히, 민간부문 중심의 제품디자인 분야와 더불어 정부 및 지방자치단체를 중심으로 추진되고 있는 공공디자인 분야에서도 이러한 CMF 디자인의 발전과 중요성에 대한 인식은 높아지고 있는 상황이다. 그러나 이러한 인식과 수준의 발전 에도 불구하고 제품 및 공공시설물의 CMF 개발이 사용환경과의 이질성, 사용자를 위한 사용성과의 연계 부족 및 디자인 개발의 마지막 단계에서 장식적 개념으로 국한하여 개발되는 이유 등으로 인해 사용자에게 물리적, 감성적 가치를 제공하지 못하는 문제점을 지속적으로 나타내고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 제품, 공공시설물 사례 및 연구자 본인의 디자인 개발 사례를 통해 CMF 개발의 방향 설정에 있어 주요문제점 및 원인을 분석하고 문제해결을 위한 구체적이고 실질적인 개발 방향을 제안하였다. 이를 위해, 제품 및 공공시설물 CMF 개발의 주요문제점을 색채, 재질, 패턴 등을 포함한 외관디자인 관점, 생산과 설치 및 유지관리의 효율성 등을 포함하는 공급자 관점, 사용성과 사용환경의 변화에 따른 사용자 관점으로 나누어 문제점 및 원인을 분석하였다. 이와 같은 관점에 따른 분석과정을 거쳐 지속적으로 사용이 가능하고 사용자에게 본연의 가치를 제공할 수 있는 CMF 디자인 개발을 위해 사용공간 및 설치공간과의 조화를 위한 절제된 칼라, 재질의 적용이 외관디자인 관점에서 중요하고 대상의 구조적 접근에 따른 부분별 생산 및 설치 방식에 맞는 재질의 분리 적용을 제안하였 다. 또한 사용자를 위한 사용환경 변화와 물리적, 감성적 사용성에 대한 고려가 필요하며 마지막으로 제품, 공공시설물의 초기 디자인 단계부터 CMF 개발 방향을 함께 고려하여 추진하는 CMF 개발 프로세스의 변화 필요성 및 변화된 프로세스를 연구의 결론으로 함께 제안하였다.

With the development of material technology and surface treatment technology, the level of CMF(Color, material, finishing) of products and public facilities has been continuously developed. In particular, the awareness and importance of CMF are increasing not only the private sector-oriented product design field but also in the public design field, which is being promoted by the government and local governments. However, despite these development of perceptions and levels, there is a continuous problems of failing to provide physical and emotional values due to limited to visual decorative concepts at the end of design process and the lack of linkage with usability in developing CMF design. Therefore, in this study, through the researcher's own design development cases, analyzed major problems and causes in setting the direction of CMF development and suggested practical directions for solving the problems. To this end, the cause of the problems of CMF development include the appearance design perspective such as color, material, and pattern, the supplier perspective as a production and maintenance. And the user perspective according to the change of use and use environment. In order to develop CMF design to provide value through this process, first, the application of restrained colors and materials to harmonize with the use and installation space is important. Second, separately application of materials suitable for the part production and assembly method according to the structural approach. Third, it is necessary to consider the use environment change and usability for users. And finally, the necessity and change of the CMF development process that promotes the CMF direction from the initial design direction of products and public facilities are concluded with the conclusion of the study.
