1979년 6월 창간호부터 2019년 8월까지 ｢한국교회사학회지｣에는 40편의 근대교회사 분야 논문이 실려 있다. 그 40편 가운데 경건주의와 관련된 연구가 15편으로 근대교회사 연구의 38%를 차지하고, 웨슬리와 관련된 연구는 18편으로 45%나 된다. 본 연구는 “｢한국교회사학회지｣에 실린 경건 주의와 웨슬리 연구를 통해 학회지의 근대교회사 연구를 분석 평가하였다. 경건주의 연구논문들은 대부분 개혁에 대해 기술하고 있다. 이는 한국교회와 목회자들의 타락과 교회개혁에 대한 열망이 종교개혁으로 시작된 개 신교의 타락을 통렬히 비판하며 등장했던 경건주의에 대해 신학자들이 관심을 갖도록 이끌었기 때문으로 보인다. 웨슬리 연구는 웨슬리안 교단 연구자들이 주도적으로 이끌어 왔으며, 그 주제도 다양하게 연구되어왔다. 전체적으로 평가해 보면, 그간의 본 학회지 근대교회사 분야는 너무 특정 분야와 지역에 연구가 쏠려 있다. 근대교회사 내에서 보다 다양한 지역과 다양한 분야와 주제를 다루는 연구들을 통해 학문의 균형 있는 발전에 기여하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 경건주의 연구에 있어서도 교회개혁뿐 아니라 예배, 성례, 소그룹과 평신도 중심의 교회 조직 등 목회자들이 관심을 가질 만한 연구가 많아져야 한다. 무엇보다 그간의 연구가 지나치게 남성만을 대상으로 연구해 왔다는 점은 문제이다. 가용한 자원 안에서라도 여성들을 재발견하는 연구가 필요하다.

From the first issue of June 1979 to the recent issue of August 2019, the Journal of the Church History Society in Korea contains 40 articles for the study of modern church history. Of them, 15 articles were related to Pietism, accounting for 38% of the studies of modern church history, and 18 to Wesley, 45%. This study analyzes and evaluates the journal’s articles on modern church history, focused on the study of Pietsm and Wesley. Most studies of Pietism focused on reform. The corruption of Korean churches and pastors and the desire for church reform led theologians to pay attention to Pietism which emerged with fierce criticism of the corruption of Protestantism. The study of Wesley has been led by the scholars of Wesleyan denomination, and the subject has been studied in various ways. As a whole, the studes of modern church history in the journal are excessively concentrated on specific fields and regions. It is necessary to contribute to the balanced development of scholarship by studies covering more diverse areas and themes in modern church history. Also, in the field of Pietism, many studies are needed not only for church reform, but for worship, sacrament, small group and lay-centered church organization, where pastors are concerned. Above all, it is a big problem that the studies have been conducted only for men. Studies are needed to rediscover women, even within the available resources.
