이 연구는 예이츠의 재림 과 순례자 를 기독교 경전인 『성경』에 나 타난 내용과 비교한 것이다. 예이츠는 이 두 작품에서 『성경』에 나타난 내용을 다양하게 사용하고 있다. 그들 중에는 지난 2000년 동안 지속된 기독교 세계가 세계령에서 나온 이미지로 대치될 것이며 기독교의 성지로 일컬어지는 베들레헴에 사나운 짐승이 출현하거나 예수의 40일간의 금식 장면을 시적 화자의 기도 모습에 비유하고 있다. 이를 통하여 예이츠는 『성경』의 내용을 인유 형식으로 사용하여 시의 의미를 좀 더 강화시키고 있다.

Yeats is known as an anti-Christ and he manifests his stance in his poems very well. But interestingly, Yeats alludes to the Bible in order to strengthen his intention. A few examples are: the appearance of ‘Spiritus Mundi’ as a new ruler of the world after the Christian era and a rough beast born in Bethlehem, not a Lamb as a sacrifice, and fasting for some forty days and praying on the Lough Derg. Through these, we could recognize that Yeats alludes to the Bible, revealing his intentions.
