현재 한국 음악대학의 커리큘럼은 20-30년 전의 커리큘럼과 비교하여 별 다른 변화 없이 유지되고 있다. 조성음악을 위한 화성법, 대위법, 구조분석에 대한 수업은 필수로 지정되어 있는 반면, 조성 음악 이후의 음악에 대해서는 한, 두 과목 선택 과목으로 개설하고 있으며, 심지어 이와 관련 수업이 개설도 안되어 있어 무조음악에 대한 교육적 경험의 기회조차 받을 수 없는 음악대학들도 무수히 많은 것이 현실이다. 이에 본 연구에서 국내 음악대학들의 커리큘럼을 조사하고 분석하여 현 실태를 파악하였으며, 세계 우수한 음악대학들의 커리큘럼 조사를 통해 어떠한 수업들을 제공하며 21세기 흐름을 어떻게 반영하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 미국, 독일 음악대학들의 커리큘럼을 조사한 결과, 우리나라와는 매우 상이한 수업 설계를 확인할 수 있었다. 전공 음악 수업뿐만 아니라 음악과 관련된 다양한 분야의 수업을 개설하여 깊이 있는 해석 능력 함양이 가능토록 하고 있었으며, 4년의 학부 기간 동안 조성음악에만 초점 맞춘 것 이 아니라 20, 21세기 현대 음악까지 음악이론과 음악사를 연계시켜 단계적으로 매우 체계적인 교육과정을 설계하고 있었다. 또한, 정통 서양 음악에서 벗어나 현재 음악계에서 주목받고 있는 작곡가, 장르 등을 다양하게 수용하여 개설하고 있는 점도 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 우수 음악대학들의 커리큘럼 분석 연구를 통해, 필자는 21세기, 한국 음악대학의 커리 큘럼을 개발하여 제안하였다. 전공필수의 음악이론 1-9 수업을 조성음악 분석법에서부터 현대음악 분석까지 아우르도록 설계하여 4년의 학부 과정을 통해 모든 학생들이 조성음악 뿐만 아니라 20세 기, 21세기, 현대음악까지 접하고, 분석⋅해석 능력을 함양할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한, 음악이론 수업과 음악사 수업 내용이 연결되도록 설계하였으며, 이러한 이론적 학습과 함께 분석 실습, 연주 실습 등도 연계된 교육과정을 제안하였다.

In this paper, I focused on the problem of music college curriculum in Korea. For analysis of music colleges curriculums, I searched several music colleges' curriculums, such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea National University of Arts, Kyunghee University, University of Seoul, Chungnam University, Joenbuk University, Kyungbuk University, and Busan University. Through this investigation and analysis of these music college curriculums, I found that those universities still focus on the tonal music education except atonal music. However, in case of the curriculums of music college in America and Germany, they have totally different curriculums from our curriculums. They give many chances to students to take various subjects relating to 20, 21 century music. In addition, it also opens up classes in various fields related to music to enable students to have deep interpretive ability of music. During four-year undergraduate program, it focused not only on tonal music theory but also on music theory and music history including the 20th and 21st century music. Also, I was able to confirm that there are many classes to study traditional Western music as well as contemporary music and popular genre. Through the curriculum analysis study of these excellent music colleges, I developed and proposed more ideal curriculum suitable for Korean Music College in the 21st century. As required courses, the music theory 1-9 classes are designed to cover from traditional tonal music analysis to contemporary music analysis through the four-year undergraduate course. Especially, it is designed to link the music theory class and the contents of the music history class. With this theoretical learning, the analysis course and the performance practice class are associated in the curriculum that I suggested.
