이 논문은 문익환의 시 세계 속에 담긴 삶과 죽음에 주목한다. 즉 작품 속에 표현된 삶과 죽음이 대립을 넘어 통합·승화를 이뤄 나가는 특성을 찾아 삶과 죽음에 관한 인식과 사유 과정을 해석한다. 그럼으로써 죽음으로 사는 삶과 그 삶이 한 차원 높은 생명으로 끊임없이 전진하는 삶의 원천임을 밝히고자 한다. 1절에서는 삶이 곧 죽음이고, 죽음이 곧 삶임을 설명한다. 즉 삶으로써 죽음을 사는 것이고, 죽음으로써 비로소 삶을 영위하는 통합적 관계임을 찾아 밝힌다. 죽음으로써 삶을 첫째, 죽음 같은 삶을 사는 삶, 둘째, ‘너’의 죽음을 견디며 사는 삶, 셋째, ‘나’의 죽음을 마다하지 않고 사는 삶, 넷째, ‘나’를 죽임으로써 사는 삶 등 네 가지로 나눠 시 속에서 확인한다. 2절에서는 삶으로써 전진이라는 화두로 시 세계 속에 담긴 삶과 죽음에 대한 인식이 승화되어 나타나는 관계를 밝힌다. 이를 위해 시 속에 담긴 삶으로써 ‘전진’을 두 가지로 조명한다. 첫째는 끊임없는 밀알의 삶이고, 둘째는 끊임없는 구도의 삶이다. 이를 통해 문익환의 삶이 그의 시 세계에서 다시 거듭난 삶으로, 굴복하지 않는 투쟁으로, 끊임없이 전진하는 삶으로, 한 차원 높은 ‘전진’으로 승화되어 나타나는 삶을 조명한다.

This study focuses on life and death in Moon, Ik-hwan’s poems. In his poems, this paper discovers the features of the unified process over the conflict between life and death and interprets the recognition and thoughtful processes of life and death. The first chapter explains that life and death is the same in the way that those are two sides of the same existence. That is, it is shown that life and death have the relation of the unification. There are four kinds of life with a do-or-die attitude in Moon’s poems. That is, it is a life like death. it is a life that endures your death. it is a life that I am not afraid of my death. it is a life that I give up my life willingly. In the second chapter, we search for the unification of life and death in his poems with a topic of forward movement like our living. Moon is depicted as a person born again, as a person who fights not succumbing to oppression, and as a person who consecrates his life to moving forward in his poems.
