쳇 베이커의 시대별 보컬 스타일 변화에 관한 연구는 대중음악 논문 분야에서 잘 다뤄지지 않 은 관점이다. 이 연구에는 베이커가 활동했던 시기에 따른 보컬 스타일 변화를 도출하며 분석된 보컬 스타일을 통해 시대가 지남에 따라 드러나는 그의 보컬 스타일 특징을 선율 변주 기법으로 제시하는 것이 목적이다. 이 연구를 위해 쳇 베이커의 생애 주기를 전기 후기로 나누고 한 곡이 전기 후기에 각각 다른 버전으로 녹음 되었던 두 곡을 선정한다. 선정된 곡은 리얼북을 원곡으로 선정하고 비교 분석하여 시대별로 비교 분석한다. 선정된 2곡에 나타난 시대별 특징을 서로 비교 하여 도출해낸 공통된 변화를 통해 시대에 따른 쳇 베이커의 변화된 보컬 스타일을 제시한다. 쳇 베이커의 시대별 스타일 변화 연구를 통해 후기로 가면서 음과 리듬의 변화가 더욱 확대된 것을 볼 수 있고 노래를 재해석하여 자신만의 가사를 추가해 개성을 더하였으며 그의 노래는 시 대가 지나면서 규칙성 있는 선율 변주로 발전되었음을 확인하는 결과를 도출하였다.

A study on transformation of vocal styles of Chet Baker by age has not been performed. Hence, this study aims to investigate how his vocal styles changed according to age when he was active and to present characteristics of his vocal styles by age based on the investigated his vocal styles, using melodic variation techniques. In order to perform the study, the career period of Chet Baker was divided into the former part and the latter part. In addition, two songs are selected, both of which were recorded in a different version during the former part and latter one. The selected two songs were decided as the original songs of a real book, and comparative analysis of them by age was performed. Common changes in age-specific characteristics in each song obtained by the comparative analysis were used to identify his vocal styles changed according to age. The results of the study on transformation of vocal styles of Chet Baker by age showed that changes in note and rhythm were further expanded in the later part. Moreover, his individuality was also expressed well by reinterpreting songs and adding his own lyrics. Therefore, this study show that his songs evolved into those with regular melodic variations over time.
