본고는 휴암리 유형의 주 분포권인 호서지역과 호남지역의 청동기시대 중기 휴암리 유형의 양상을 살펴보고, 이를 통해 두 지역 간 휴암리 유형의 전개 과정과 성격을 파악하는 것이 목적이다. 청동기시대 중기 휴암리 유형의 양상을 파악하기 위해 호서·호남지역 취락 유적의 주거지 자료를 통해 취락유형을 설정하고, 지역권을 구분하여 현황과 분포양상을 검토하였다. 호서지역의 휴암리 유형은 전기 문화에서 점진적 변화과정이 인정되지만, 호남지역의 휴암리 유형은 외부로부터 유입된 것이며 그 주체는 호서지역의 휴암리 집단으로 추정하였다. 이에 휴암리식 주거지와 송국리식 주거지의 절대연대, 취락 내 주거지 배치 양상, 출토유물 분석을 통해 휴암리 유형의 시간성과 송국리 문화와의 관계를 검토하여 휴암리 유형의 전개 양상을 확인하였다. 검토 결과 호남지역은 1차로 유입된 휴암리 집단이 2차로 유입된 송국리 집단 이후에도 지속적으로 조성되고 있었으며 특히, 남해안 일대를 적극적으로 점유했던 것으로 판단하였다. 호서지역의 휴암리 유형은 송국리 문화로 전환되어 시기차를 보이는 반면, 호남지역은 호서지역과는 달리 집단차를 반영하는 것으로 파악하였고 이를 통해 호서·호남지역 휴암리 유형의 다양한 전개 양상을 확인하였다.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the patterns of the Middle Bronze Age Hyuamri assemblage in the Hoseo and Honam regions in which the Hyuamri assemblage is mainly distributed, and based on the results, identify the development and nature of the Hyuamri assemblage with a comparison of the two regions. To identify the patterns of the Hyuamri assemblage in the Middle Bronze Age, this area’s settlement patterns were defined using data on the dwellings in the settlement remains of the Hoseo and Honam regions. Although the Hyuamri assemblage in the Hoseo region is recognized as having undergone gradual changes from the Early Bronze Age culture, the Hyuamri assemblage in the Honam region was brought from the outside culture, and the main agent is assumed to be the Hyuamri group in the Hoseo region. Therefore, in this study, the development of the Hyuamri assemblage was identified by examining the relationship between the temporality of the Hyuamri assemblage and the Songgukri culture through an analysis on the absolute ages of the Hyuamri-type and Songgukri-type dwellings, the layouts of dwellings within their settlements, and their excavated remains. According to the analysis results, the Hyuamri group that first entered the Honam region continued to reside in the Honam region even after Songgukri group subsequently entered the Honam region, and particularly, the Hyuamri group actively occupied the land around the southern coast of Korea. The Hoseo region exhibited a time difference between the Hyuamri assemblage and the Songgukri culture given that the first was converted into the latter, whereas the Honam region reflected the differences between the two groups. This result helped confirm the various developments of the Hyuamri assemblage in the Hoseo and Honam regions.
