이 논문은 한국불교 법화계 종단의 예경의식과 송주의식의 특징을 살펴본 글이다. 현재 한국불교 법화계 교단은 여러 곳이 있으나 본고에서는 자생적 종단, 외부의 영향 속에 성립된 종단 세 곳, 천태종, 관음종, 영산법화종의 예송의례를 살펴보았다. 천태종의 예송의례의 특징은 중창조사의 예경이 추가되었고, 관음독송정근을 위주로 하고 있고, 거사부전제도를 통해 승속불이를 취하고 있는 점이다. 불입종과 2기 관음종의 예송의례의 특징은‘삼귀의례’와 ‘칠불거양’을 시설한 것, 범음 명칭 ‘나모 삳달마 푼다리까 수드라’의 주력, 『법화경』 여래수량품을 염송하여 중생들로 하여금 무상도에 들게 하고 속히 불신을 성취하게 하는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 영산법화종의 예송의례의 특징은 예불문이 편제되어 있지 않고 삼보례로만 행해지고 있으며, 법보인 달마야중을 『묘법연화경』으로 대체하여 법화계 종단답게 법보를 구체화하고, 송주의식의 현행 개경게의 ‘아금문견득수지’가 ‘아금견문득수지’로 나타나는 점이다. 법화계 종단임에도 각각의 종지와 종풍에 따라 예송의례의 특징을 드러내고 있다. 종지, 종풍이 명확히 드러나지 않는 현행 종단들의 예송의례에서 느낄 수 없는 자신들 만의 교리를 확연히 나타냄으로써, 어쩌면 법화계 종단의 예송의례는 그 자신들의 정체성을 여타의 종단들보다는 잘 드러내고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

This writing considers the characteristics of the rituals of Yegyeong (禮敬, worship) and Songju (誦呪, recitation of mantras) in Korean Buddhist orders of The Lotus Flower Sect. Currently, there are several kinds of orders of them, but from my own research, the ritual of Yesong (禮誦, the worshipful chanting) in three Buddhist orders are examined, that is, the Cheontae Order, the Gwaneum Order, and the Yeongsan Beophwa Order. Its characteristics of the Cheontae Order are as follows: It added the worship for the patriarch who renovated its order, its main focus was on Gwaneumdoksongjeonggeun (the fervent discipline of reciting Avalokiteśvara) and it employed the system that a male devotee maintains the Buddha Hall which shows that monastic and householders are non-dual. It can be said that the rituals of the Burip Order and the 2nd Gwaneum Order are characterized by the arrangement of The threefold refuges, the elevation of seven Buddhas, and the main focus on the power of the earnest chanting of dharani, Namo Saddharmapuṇḍarīka Sūtra in Sanskrit, and the recitation of Tathāgata-āyus-pramāṇa-parivarta of Saddharma- puṇḍarīka Sūtra to have the people attain the Unsurpassed enlightenment and achieve The Buddha-body. Its characteristics of the Yeongsan Beophwa Order are that Yebulmun (prayer for Buddhist service) is not organized but practiced only with the ceremony for the Triple Gem, and that the Dharma Yajung (all the Buddhas’ teachings), the Dharma Gem is replaced with the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Dharma (妙法蓮華經, Saddharmapuṇḍarīka Sūtra) which matches its lineage with embodying the Dharma Gem, and that “Ageum ‘gyeonmun’ deuksuji” is recited in place of “Ageum ‘mungyeon’ deuksuji” which is the current lyric of Gaegyeongge (Opening Chant of the Sutra Song) in the rituals of Songju. Even though they are of the lineage of The Lotus Flower Sect, they have each own characteristic according to each main doctrine and tradition. They clearly express each own doctrine in the rituals which other Buddhist orders do not. It is clear that their rituals of Yegyeong reveal their own identity better than others.
