본 논문은 논자가 활동하고 있는 현대 한국 문인화단의 제경향 중 단색회화 경향에 대한 연구이다. 이 연구를 통해 현대 한국 문인화의 다양한 정체성을 확인하고, 현대 한국 문인화의 나아갈 방향과 새로운 가능성을 모색하고자 한다. 문인사대부들은 우주의 원리나 현상을 자신이 몸소 체험함으로써 그들의 교양의 질(質)과 그 지위를 검증하는 수단으로 문인화(文人畵)의 수묵 정신(水墨精神)을 강조하고 있다. 한편 서양의 현대미술 사조 중 하나인 미니멀니즘이 우리나라에 유입 되어 우리의 정서와 문화에 맞게 변화됨으로써 한국적인 미니 멀리즘, 즉 단색회화(單色繪畫)가 탄생되었는데 그 배경 역시 문인화의 수묵 정신이 바탕이 되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 이에 본 논고에서는 문인화와 단색회화의 공통분모인 수묵 정신을 비교 검토하고 현대 한국 문인화의 단색회화 경향 작품을 예시하여 이를 분석하고 검증하였다. 이 연구를 통해 서양 회화에 속하는 단색회화와 동양 회화에 속하는 단색회화 경향의 문인화 작품들 모두 문인화 전통의 수묵 정신을 바탕으로 우리나라 특유의 미적 양식과 우리만의 새로운 회화 양식을 추구하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

This thesis is to study the tendency of dansaekhwa(단색화, 單 色化) or Korean monochrome painting in the contemporary Korean literati painting scene. This study aims to describe Korean literati painting’s diverse identities and surmise its direction and new possibilities. Scholar officials put emphasis on the spirit of muninhwa (문인 화, 文人畵) or literati painting as a means to verify their refinement and status while experiencing the principles and phenomena of the universe. Korean-style Minimalism called dansaekhwa came into being with the introduction of Minimalism, one of the Western modern art trends. It has under gone changes to reflect Korean people’s emotion and culture based on the spirit of literati painting. This paper is a comparative review of Korean literati painting’s ink wash painting spirit which is a common denominator of Korean literati painting(muninhwa) and monochrome painting(dansaekhwa). It also tries to exemplify monochrome painting-style works in Korean literati painting, analyzing and verifying them. Through this study we are able to confirm that both Korean monochrome painting belonging to Western-style painting and monochrome painting-style Korean literati painting have been pursuing an intrinsic aesthetic mode and new painting style, anchored in the ink painting spirit of the literati painting tradition.
