이 연구는 한국불교의 대표적인 포교 성공사례 중 한 곳인 한마음선원을 대상으로 포교 성공요인과 위험요인을 분석한다. 연구자는 일반적인 관점 과는 다른 관점, 즉 성공요인보다는 위험요인에 주목한다. 이를 위해 성 공적인 포교 사례들을 개별적이고 독립적인 사례들로서 주목하여 각각의 사례에서 성공 요인을 분석하는 기존 방법론이 아닌 새로운 방법론을 제 시한다. 대략적으로 정리하면, 성공사례들 속에서 공통적인 ‘성공적인 포 교 조건’을 정리하고, 특정한 사례(이 연구에서는 한마음선원)를 대상으로 성공적인 포교 조건 중에서 가장 취약한 것이 무엇인지 점검하고 그 대 안을 찾는다. 성공적인 포교 조건은 조직 요소와 전법 활동요소로 구성되 며, 불교조직의 요소는 불법승의 체계를 갖춘다. 첫째, ‘불’을 의미하는 사찰지도자의 리더십. 둘째, ‘법’을 구축하기 위한 것으로 사찰지도자의 이념과 그 이념을 전달하는 교육체계, 셋째, ‘승’을 위한 사찰지도자의 이 념을 반영한 운영체계와 신도조직이다. 그리고 전법 활동은 교화를 지향 하는 포교와 ‘법’의 실천과 요익중생의 구체화인 사회적 실천으로 구분할 수 있다. 특히 전법활동은 사회와 사찰이 만나는 접점으로 사회적ㆍ지역 적 요구를 반영해야 성공적인 포교 활동이 가능하다. 선행연구와 한마음 선원의 자료를 통해 현재 한마음선원은 포교 조건을 충족하고 있음을 확 인하였다. 그리고 위험요인으로는 대행스님 리더십의 새로운 정리와 계 승, 사회활동을 검토하였다.

This study analyzes the factors of propagation success for Hanmaum Seon Center, one of the successful representative cases of propagation work in Korean Buddhism. This study focuses on perspectives different from general views, that is, failure or risk factors rather than success factors. This study does not analyze each case by noting them as individual and independent cases. Instead, common 'successful propagation conditions' are identified and organized for several successful cases. Then, the most vulnerable elements of propagation conditions are reviewed for specific temples. The requirements for successful propagative work consist of organizational components and dharma transmission activity elements. And the elements of the Buddhist system can be organized using the Three Jewels[三寶]. First is the leadership of the temple leader. Second, his/her thought and an educational system that conveys his/her thought. Third, an operating system and a Buddhist lay system that reflects his/her thought. And dharma transmission activities can be divided into propagation work aimed at edification and social practice, which practice the 'Buddha's teaching' and realize the welfare of live beings. In particular, dharma transmission activities are a space of contact between society and temples, and successful propagative activities are possible only when social and regional needs are reflected. Previous studies and data from Hanmaum Seon Center confirmed that the temple currently satisfies the propagation conditions. And as risk factors, we looked at leadership and social activities.
