천태종은 진씨 수나라 시기에 발원 되었고 법화종이라고 불리기도 하였는 데 중국의 최초의 본토화 된 불교 종파로서 중국 불교사 최초로 창설된 종파 이기도 하다. 천태종의 창설은 이미 1400여년의 시간이 흘렀는데 그 유구한 발전역사와 세밀하고 완정하게 갖추어진 종파체계로 인해 중국 불교학의 중 시를 받고 있다. 이는 중국 불교의 발전사에서 매우 중요한 위치에 놓여 있을 뿐만 아니라 전 세계에서도 한 자리 할 수 있는데 더우기 한국, 일본 등 동남 아시아 여러 나라에 널리 영향 주고 있다. 천태종은 사십여 대를 전해 내려 오면서 그 사상은 이미 사회의 전통문화와 융합되어 있고 사회의 여러 방면 에 심원한 영향과 실용가치를 제공해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 현대사회의 시각 으로 천대종의 사상과 현대사회와의 상관성 및 그 영향과 작용을 살펴 보며 선행연구에 대한 연구의 방식으로 천태종의 발전역사와 그 사상체계에 대해 연구 및 논술을 진행하며 정성분석법을 응용하여 천태종의 사상이 현대사회 에 미치는 영향과 그 가치 작용을 요약 및 귀납하려 한다.

Tiantai Sect, also known as Fahua Sect, is the earliest localized Buddhism sect in China. Also, it came as the earliest sect of Chinese Buddhism. Initiated more than 1,400 years ago, Tiantai Sect features a long development history and a complete set of sectarian systems. As a result, Tiantai Sect is highly valued by the Chinese Buddhism world. Not only does Tiantai Sect hold quite an important position in Chinese Buddhism development history, but has exerted a widespread influence on South Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia countries. Inherited and developed by more than 40 generations of followers, so far Tiantai Sect has been fully blended with Chinese traditional culture, exerting a far-reaching effect on all aspects of society. Viewed from a modern perspective, the paper studied correlations between Tiantai Sect ideologies and modern society as well as its influence on society. The development history and ideological system of the Tiantai Sect were studied by way of literature research. Finally, the effects of Tiantai sect ideologies on modern society and its social significance were summarized through qualitative analysis in the paper.

天臺宗創始於陳隋之際，又稱法華宗，是中國最早的本土化的佛教宗派， 也是中國佛教史上最早創立的一個宗派。天臺宗的創立至今已1400多年 了，它以其悠久的發展歷史、精深完整的宗派體系為中國佛學所重視，不僅 在中國佛教發展史有著十分重要的地位，而且能立足於世界，尤其是在韓 國、日本等東南亞各國都有廣泛的弘傳及影響力。天臺宗經過四十多代人的 傳承發展，它的思想已與社會傳統文化相融合，對社會各個方面產生了深遠 的影響和實用價值。本文則從現代社會的視角去研究天臺宗思想與現代社會 的相關性及其影響作用，運用文獻研究法對天臺宗的發展歷史及其思想體系 進行了研究論述，然後運用定性分析法概括歸納出天臺宗思想在現代社會中 產生的影響及其價值作用。
