우리나라 노인들은 경제적 어려움과 역할의 상실, 은퇴와 고 독, 질병 등의 복합적인 어려움을 경험한다. 나아가 노인의 소 외와 우울, 자살이라는 사회문제로까지 대두된다. 노년기 우울 은 환경의 영향을 많이 받기 때문에 다차원적 연구의 일환으로 다양한 변인들과 노인 우울과의 관계를 본 연구들이 많다. 그 중 사회적 배제와 노인의 우울에 직접적인 영향관계를 지적한 선행연구를 다수 발견할 수 있었다. 선행연구 검토 결과 사회 적 배제에 대한 다차원적 접근과 우울과의 관계를 밝히는 실증 적인 연구가 필요하였다. 인천시 및 경기도 지역의 중⋅고령 노인들을 대상으로 한 실 증분석 결과, 사회적 배제의 하위요인인 경제적, 정치적 배제 요인은 우울에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 경제적 배제 와 정치적 배제가 완화될수록 노인이 인지하는 우울의 정도는 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회적 배제에 대한 하위요인의 다차원적 분석을 실시한 결과, 경제적 및 정치적 배제의 경우 통계적으로 유의미하였으나 사회문화적 배제의 경우 유의미하 지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 노인의 우울을 낮추기 위한 다 차원적 접근의 필요성 제기 및 기초자료로의 활용이 가능하다. 둘째, 노인의 정신적 건강을 위한 측면에서도 변화된 정책을 통해 경제적 배제와 정치적 배제 현상을 개선하려는 다양한 노 력이 필요하다. 건강하게 장수하는 노인들을 위해 평생건강관 리체제를 만들고, 중앙정부 및 지자체, 사회복지 기관, 지역사 회에서 사회적 배제를 낮출 수 있는 다양한 프로그램을 개발하 고 집행하고 실행하는 것이 무엇보다도 중요하다.
