본 연구는 불교경전의 현대적 해석과 활용이라는 관점에서 『법화경』 「묘음보살품」을 음악치료적으로 이해하려는 시도이다. 종교 혁신의 필요성이 회자되는 사회적 변화에 호응하여 경전에 대한 다양한 해석과 접근이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 불교 경전 중에 『법화경』의 「묘음보 살품」에 대해 고찰하고, 현대적 심리상담기법 중 음악치료 기법과의 연관성을 검토하고, 이를 현대적으로 적용하는 방법을 제시해 보았다. 『법화경』은 대중의 사랑을 많이 받고 있는 경전임에도 「묘음보살품」 에 관한 선행연구는 드물다. 대체로 다른 연구에 일부로 언급되었을 뿐 그 자체로는 연구되지 않았다. 그래서 묘음보살에 대한 접근은 명호 에 대한 해석을 통해서 접근해 보았다. 묘음보살을 원전의 해석에 국한하기보다는 그 의미를 확장하여 미묘 한 음악을 통해 중생을 구제하는 보살로 보고, 그 치유적 성격을 현대 음악치료적 시각에서 접근하였다. 과거에는 기도와 집중을 통해 만날 수 있었던 묘음보살을 이제는 기술의 발전으로 음악 혹은 소리를 통해 만날 수 있다. 현대적 방편을 통해 보살도를 실천할 수 있다면 우리가 사는 세상이 곧 불국토가 될 수 있을 것이다.

This study attempts to comprehend ”the chapter of gadgadasvara (Miaoembosal-pum) from the Lotus sutra (Beobwha-gyeong) through a music therapeutic perspective, within the context of modern interpretations and applications of Buddhist scriptures. Recognizing the societal changes calling for religious innovation, there is a need for diverse interpretations and approaches to scriptures. Hence, this research examines the Miaoembosal-pum from the Beobwha-gyeong, explores its relevance to contemporary psychological counseling techniques, particularly music therapy, and suggests methods for its modern application. Despite the widespread popularity of the Beobwha-gyeong, the Miaoembosal-pum has received limited prior research attention. While briefly mentioned in some studies, it has not been independently studied. Consequently, this research approaches the understanding of Miaoembosal through an exploration of its interpretation in terms of appellation. Rather than confining the interpretation of Gadgadasvara (Miaoembosal) to traditional perspectives, this study expands its meaning to view the bodhisattva as one who, through subtle music, seeks to rescue sentient beings. The healing nature of Miaoembosal is approached from the perspective of contemporary music therapy. In the past, encounters with Miaoembosal were facilitated through prayer and concentration. However, with technological advancements, contemporary individuals can now connect with Miaoembosal through music or sound. By employing modern means, the practice of embodying the bodhisattva's virtues becomes achievable, potentially leading to a harmonious coexistence in our worldly lives and an eventual transcendent realm.
