세계기독교(World Christianity, 지구촌기독교)는 20세기 이후 지난 100여 년간의 짧은 시간에 일어난 전 지구적인 기독교의 특징을 파악하고자 하는 연구이다. 세계기독교는 독특한 몇가지 현상들과 특징들을 지닌다. 본 논고는 그중에서도 ‘세계기독교 독립교단의 발흥 과 민족주의적 특징’에 대해 보다 심층적으로 연구하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 세계기독교의 독립교단의 발흥현상(the rise of Independents) 에 대해서 살펴보고 선교통계학적(missiometric)인 근거로서 이를 뒷받침하고자 한다. 이후, 이 현상의 배후에 있는 사회-정치적배경 (socio- political context)을 탐구하겠다. 다음으로 세계기독교가 남반구와 북반구를 통틀어 전반적으로 민족주의적 특징을 지니고 있음 을 논증할 것이다. 그리고 한국 기독교 민족주의가 기독교와 민족주의 의 올바른 공생 관계에 중요한 시사점이 있음을 예시로 들것이다. 끝으로 이러한 민족주의적 특징이 세계기독교의 핵심특징인 글로컬리 티(Glocality)에 어떻게 기여하는지를 밝히고, 앞으로의 세계기독교 선교에 중요한 원동력이 된다는 것을 제안한다.

World Christianity is a study on the features of global Christianity, and examines the rapid growth of global Christianity over the past century. World Christianity has several distinctive phenomena and characteristics. Among them, this article will focus on “The rise of Independents and the nationalistic characteristic of World Christianity.” Firstly, the writer will probe the rise of Independents in World Christianity with missiometric bases, discussing the socio-political context of the rise of Independents. Secondly, it will demonstrate how World Christianity has the nationalistic characteristics, including a case study of Korea Christianity’s nationalistic character. Lastly, it will show how the nationalistic characteristics of World Christianity contributes ‘glocality’ in World Christianity and how it works as the driving force for the future Christian missions.
