This paper explores a cognitive approach to morality through Max Weber's concept of Wertrationalität. With Wertrationalität, Weber moves beyond Zweckrationalität and focuses on the evaluation of moral and ethical values. This is essential for judging the moral value of an act in itself, rather than simply as a means to an end. The paper reviews and critically analyses various philosophical theories, including Kant's theory of practical reason, utilitarianism, Rawls's theory of justice, and Habermas's theory of communication, and discusses how Weber's Wertrationalität can be integrated into contemporary moral education. Wertrationalität plays an important role in helping students understand moral judgements and emotions in a social context, and in developing their ability to resolve complex moral dilemmas. This approach can make an important contribution to moral education and the social sciences by expanding the scope of our understanding of morality and providing a new dimension for explaining complex social phenomena.
