본 연구는 ‘제3의 장소’ 관점에서 도농복합지역 문예회관의 특성을 분석하 고, 이를 기반으로 문예회관이 문화적 교류와 소통의 중심이 되는 문화 플랫 폼으로 발전할 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 순천문화예술회관을 사 례로, 문헌 조사, 현장 관찰, 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, ‘접근성’ 측면에서 시니어 세대는 문예회관을 ‘동네마실’과 같은 편안한 공간으로 인 식했으나, 예술 참여에 대한 심리적 장벽은 여전히 존재했다. ‘상호작용성’ 측면에서 문예회관은 시니어 세대에게 사회적 교류의 장으로 기능하지만, 일 부 이용자는 상호작용이 부족하다고 지적하였다. ‘다양성’ 측면에서 콘텐츠 의 한정성이 지역민의 관심과 참여를 저해하는 요인으로 작용했다. ‘유희성’ 측면에서 문예회관은 지역민의 참여를 촉진하기 위한 흥미로운 콘텐츠와 예 술적 경험을 제공함으로써 상권 활성화와 지역사회 활력 증진, 나아가 문화 적 거점으로 기능하고 있었다. ‘지역성’ 측면에서 지역성을 반영한 문화예술 콘텐츠가 지역민의 문화적 자긍심과 소속감 강화에 기여하는 것으로 나타났 다. 이러한 연구 결과는 지역문예회관이 ‘제3의 장소’로서 기능하기 위해서 는 문화소외계층을 위한 접근성 개선, 개방형 문화공간 조성, 유·아동 대상 프로그램 운영, 지역특화 콘텐츠 개발 등이 보완되어야 함을 시사한다.

We analyzed the characteristics of Culture and Arts Center (hereinafter Center) in Urban-Rural Mixed Areas from the perspective of a ‘Third Place’. As a result, as of accessibility, the senior generation perceives the Center as a comfortable space, akin to a ‘neighborhood gathering place’, but psychological barriers to artistic participation still exist. As of interactivity, while the Center functions as a venue for social interaction among seniors, some users pointed out that interactions among visitors remain limited. As of diversity, the limited range of content was identified as a factor hindering local residents' interest and participation. In terms of playfulness, the Center provided interesting content and artistic experiences to encourage the participation of local residents, thereby revitalizing the commercial district, enhancing the vitality of the local community, and further functioning as a cultural hub.
