본 연구는 청년들의 개인적‧사회적 맥락 속에서 증가하는 비관적인 미 래에 주목하여 절망의 위험요인과 보호요인을 탐색하였다. 온라인으로 수집된 청년 515명을 대상으로 스트레스 취약성 모델을 바탕으로 음주와 절망의 관계를 검증하고, 스트레스 완충 모델에 따라 사회적 지지의 조 절효과를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 청년의 음주는 절망을 높이는 것 으로 나타났다. 둘째, 청년이 인식한 사회적 지지는 절망을 낮추는 것으 로 확인되었다. 셋째, 청년의 음주와 절망의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 조 절효과는 유의하였다. 이상의 결과는 스트레스 취약성 모델과 스트레스 완충 모델을 지지하는 바이며, 청년들의 절망적 상황 개입 시, 개인적 차 원에서는 음주와 같은 회피성 대처를 지양하고, 사회적 차원에서는 사회 적 지지를 증진할 수 있는 제도나 정책이 필요함을 시사하였다. 끝으로 본 연구의 한계를 밝힌 뒤, 후속연구를 위한 제언을 하였다.
This study focused on hopelessness, an increasingly pessimistic future in the personal and social context of youth, and explored the risk and the protective factors for hopelessness. Using a sample of 515 youth collected through online, we examined the relationship between drinking and hopelessness based on the stress vulnerability model and analyzed the moderating effect of social support based on the stress buffering model. The results showed that, first, youth drinking increased hopelessness. second, the social support perceived by youth decreased hopelessness. Third, the moderating effect of social support on the relationship between youth drinking and hopelessness was significant. These findings support the stress vulnerability model and the stress buffering model, and suggest that interventions for youth hopelessness should focus on discouraging avoidance coping such as drinking at the individual level and promoting social support at the social level. Finally, limitations of this study are discussed and suggestions for future studies are added.
