본 연구는 최근 전공자율선택제의 확대 등 고등교육 환경의 변화에 대 응하여 교양교육 전담기관이 어떠한 역할을 하고 있고 또 할 수 있는지 를 논의하였다. 또한 2025학년도를 기준으로 서울대학교, 경기대학교, 한국외국어대학교의 교양교육 전담기관과 자유전공학부 간의 연계와 관 련된 사례 고찰을 통해 대학 교양교육 전담기관의 운영 구조와 학사지원 체계를 탐색하였다. 연구 결과, 교양교육 전담기관은 자유전공학부 신입 생들의 초기 대학생활 적응, 전공 탐색 및 설계, 교과 및 비교과 운영, 아카데믹 어드바이징, 교내 협력 체계 구축 등을 통해 학사 운영의 허브 이자 전략적 거점으로 기능할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 교양교 육 중심의 학사 설계 정착 및 강화, 그리고 제도적 기반 구축을 위한 기 초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study explores the current and potential roles of general education institutions in response to recent changes in higher education, including the expansion of flexible major selection systems. In addition, based on the 2025 academic year, this study examines the operational structures and academic support systems of general education institutions by analyzing cases of collaboration between general education units and free major programs at Seoul National University, Kyonggi University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. The findings suggest that general education institutions can function as strategic hubs for academic affairs by supporting students’ early adjustment to college life, major exploration and planning, curricular and extra-curricular engagement, academic advising, and internal collaboration. This study may serve as a foundational reference for strengthening general education-centered academic design and building institutional frameworks.
