본 연구에서는 성인기에 나타나는 친사회적 행동의 특성과 그 촉진요 인을 탐색하고자 클레어 키건의 『이처럼 사소한 것들』을 중심으로 사회 과학적 문학작품 분석(SSLA)을 수행하였다. 현대사회에서 성인의 도움행 동은 도덕적 판단과 정서적 공감, 사회적 책임의식과 같은 복합적인 요 인에 의해 형성된다. 분석결과, 주인공 펄롱은 구조적 억압과 도덕적 침 묵이 지배하는 공동체 내에서 개인의 도덕성과 공감능력을 기반으로 한 실천적 결단을 내리는 인물로 나타났다. 이는 중년기의 친사회성이 단순 한 감정적 반응을 넘어선 내면화된 윤리의식과 실천의지를 바탕으로 발 현됨을 보여주는 것이다. 본 연구는 문학작품을 통해 성인기 친사회적 행동의 구체적 사례를 분석함으로써 도덕교육과 정서교육, 그리고 성인 발달심리학 관점에서 유의미한 시사점을 제공하였다.

This study explores the characteristics and facilitating factors of prosocial behavior in adulthood through a socio-scientific literary analysis of Claire Keegan’s 『Small Things Like These』. In contemporary society, helping behavior in adults is shaped by complex factors such as moral judgment, emotional empathy, and a sense of social responsibility. The analysis reveals that the protagonist, Furlong, makes a practical and ethical decision based on personal morality and empathetic insight, despite living in a community dominated by structural oppression and moral silence. This illustrates that prosociality in middle adulthood extends beyond emotional responsiveness and is grounded in an internalized ethical consciousness and the will to act. By analyzing concrete examples of prosocial behavior in adulthood through literature, this study offers meaningful implications for moral and emotional education, as well as for adult developmental psychology.
